Hello all.
I had a partial nephrectomy in October and in November pathology confirmed clear cell carcinoma stage 1 grade 2. I’m on a 10 year follow up at St James’s, Leeds.
a few friends have recently mentioned claiming on my critical illness policy(legal and general) but my understanding is the cancer had to be invasive. My tumour has clear margins on removal, so no spread. Surgery has removed the cancer and surveillance watches for metastasis. Or that is my interpretation!
is it worth querying with the insurance company if my type of cancer would result in a payout?
it’s such a minefield, you get your head around the diagnosis, then the surgery, then the recovery and returning to work.
thanks in advance
Hi ,
I would suggest you ring the Macmillan helpline and ask to speak to a financial advisor. When I did so they arranged for one to ring me back and they were really useful. They will be aware of the criteria the insurance companies use and how the interpret them.
All the best,
Gragon x
Hi,
I was diagnosed with Stage 1 in 2017 and made a successful critical illness claim.
Aviva contacted my consultant and the specialist nurses advised me what to document on the form.
The policy stated “carcinoma insitu” as a claim criteria which it was. And yes invasive.
It was straight forward and sorted swiftly. Aviva also refunded all payments made from the date of my claim.
I would advise you to claim on your policy.
good luck
Michelle xx
