Hi I’m just wondering if anyone else struggles to eat? My mum is waiting on biopsy results from her lung for metastatic kidney cancer. In the last couple of weeks she has lost over a stone and is struggling to eat and when she does she gets a thick acid sick feeling in her throat. She still gets hungry but can’t eat a lot. Any experience or advice would be helpful. I’m assuming this is being caused by her kidney tumour? Thanks
Hello Ariel
I am Brian, one of the Community Champions here on the Community. I have just noticed your post has gone unanswered. I can't answer it myself, however by me replying it will be "bumped up" to the top of the page nad I hope seen and answered by other members of the Kidney cancer group.
I think it might be an idea in mum's case to contact her CNS (Cancer Nurse Specialist) or if one has not yet been allocated her GP to seek advice on this issue.
I wish you well moving forward.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi Ariel.
Really sorry to hear about your mum.
My kidney cancer has not metastased yet but I was diagnosed with stage 3 kidney cancer few months ago (my story is in my profile). Before I even knew I had cancer, I struggled with eating and was having acid reflux when eating solid food. I also lost weight (nearly 10kg).
I found that eating cold and liquid/soft food helped. I survived on rice pudding, cold custard and soups.
Eating little and often helped as I was getting full really quickly.
I wish you and your mum all the best.
Hi. Thank you for your reply. She keeps feeling really sick and gets a thick feeling at the back of her throat which is making her feel sick. She’s taking antacids but they don’t really help. She has good days and bad days. This weekend she is struggling to get anything down. She’s has not seen her oncologist yet but has an appointment on the 12th. I’m really hoping some form of treatment will be started soon after and she starts to eat better. I struggle to see her like this.
