Hi quick post today was a day that in May 2018 I couldn’t have imagined. My last visit to say goodbye to my lovely oncologist Dr Sen at Leeds cancer centre. How do you say thank you to the man who saved my life. I was discharged last May by ent in Wakefield at the 5 year mark. Dr Sen has seen me yearly since 2018 so it was a bitter sweet moment. We chatted we laughed he’s retiring in June I’ve seen his son grow from 13 to 18 and starting university our grandson grow from 8 to 13 which in those dark early days I didn’t think I would see.
He’s sent a refferal to Leeds dental hospital for me so they can access my scans in case I need any extractions. He’s also written to my gp to ensure I will have a yearly thyroid check for life.
We hugged I wiped a tear away and left saying remember One life just live it.
Also today a big day James our grandson got his HPV vaccination. So just a reminder if you’ve teenagers boys and girls get the vaccine. Let’s help eradicate HPV cancers.
Hazel
Thank you xx

Good evening Hazel. how lovely to be reading this post, it does not seem possible that it was 5 years ago, i remember when you first posted here and here you are still helping and reassuring others in the head and neck group. I often look back and remember your mis-spelled words as you were not wearing your glasses it still makes me smile. Its been a privilege to have been following you for the last 5 years and becoming good friends along the way. I know what you meant when you had your last meeting with the consultant because like you i had the same consultant throughout my treatment and you built up a strong bond, it brought tears to my eyes when i shook hands for the last time. Congratulations on reaching this milestone Hazel, thank you for all your input in this group.Wishing you all the best for many years to come, my friend.
