I’ve done three rounds of chemo. Had mask fitted and was supposed to have chemo and radiotherapy yesterday. Kidneys not doing well so couldn’t have chemo but had 1st session of radiotherapy. Woke up in the night with my mouth dry and feeling nauseous. I thought side effects started later maybe week 2. Has anyone else experienced symptoms immediately. My tongue was stuck to roof of my mouth. Would appreciate advice. By the way with such anxiety with chemo I’ve been prescribed sedatives on the next two sessions coming up when kidneys are better

Hi...... The trouble is chemotherapy drugs target rapidly dividing cells. The problem is that they cannot tell the difference between normal, rapidly dividing cells and cancer cells, so the drugs attack them all. The lining of your tummy has rapidly dividing cells so you're hit with heartburn
The best Gaviscon I found is Gaviscon Advance. It's very thick
As you've found it doesn't work brilliantly so you need something that works in a different way. I was put on Lansoprazole which is a PPI ( Proton Pump Inhibitor). Tell your team you're suffering. They might suggest PPIs

Hub Yes I developed heartburn mine was much later in treatment as my chemo was cisplatin. Go for the gaviscon advanced especially being Easter you May struggle to get a prescription over the weekend. Have you been given an emergency number ? With your chemo pack ? Could be worth ringing them, there should be an on call oncologist.

You can get Omeprazole 20mg over the counter.
If it's your last day of chemo tomorrow you should be able to get something from the hospital pharmacy anyway
