Hi. Have been diagnosed with right tonsil cancer that’s also in lymph node. It’s a second cancer rather than a secondary to breast (2020). Last week had other tonsil out along with remaining bottom teeth (same op!). Trying to recover from that ready for 6/7wks radiotherapy starting on 3rd April but hard to eat with stitches in gum. Wound got infected despite following mouthwash etc to letter. Antibiotics doing a good job now.
Bit nervous about side effects of radiotherapy cos found this ‘prep’ for treatment v v painful & not sure can do this.
Everyone involved in my care so far has been brilliant.

Base of tongue cancer. T2N0M0 6 weeks Radiotherapy finished January 2019
Hi I’m 4 weeks post RT of 6 weeks duration. I had two surgeries previously end of last year for tonsil cancer.
you’ll hear different stories in here of how Radiotherapy affected members. I have to say after reading some of them I felt I couldn’t do it but I’m glad I did. I’ve had no fatigue. No burns on neck. Not felt ill. I had mucositis from 2 weeks in with ulcers but not too bad. Never had feeding tube and could still eat although I soon changed to fortisip as my tastebuds disappeared. They’re starting to come back now.
it’s not a great thing to go through but remember we’re all different and react differently. I met some fab people during my daily excursions to Clatterbridge. I used the free taxi transport and glad I did. I met people far worse off than I. It put things into perspective. You’ll get through this! I found counting down the days with my radiographers really worked.
Hi Welcome from me. Yes the treatments hard but its doable I did it at 61,35 sessions of radiotherapy. Take it one day at a time don’t look too far in advance. We are all here to help. I also had lymoh node involvement by time treatment started I had 7 nodes but am still here living a great life.

Am 66 but feel there’s a lot of years left in this body.
I was 68 when I finished treatment and six years later there’s plenty of life left in me too.

Hi and welcome from me also, my husband has the same right tonsil and lymph nodes he also had teeth removed. He is 68 and is in his 3rd week of treatment, which is 6 weeks of rt and weekly chemo for 5 weeks. There’s no denying treatment is tough but as others have said is doable. Please stay off Dr Google because it will consume you, I made that mistake. Stay here, there is always someone that will be able to help.
Good luck and big hugs
