Hi again

I’m currently in hospital after having a RIG fitted yesterday and I’ve never had so much pain in my life. I’m meant to be going home today but it hurts my stomach to move or walk, I’m so fed up, did anyone else suffer this much with the fitting?

  • one whole bottle in the tube that took 30 mins which made me feel sick and my stomach sounded like a drain with constant running water

At RT tomorrow ask about a pump. You can drip feed slowly. I did it overnight. It was a revelation.

  • Ive also got diarrhoea with the liquid food

Tell RT you need to see dieticians. This awful food they give you doesn’t suit everybody and there are alternatives if the pump solution doesn’t work.

Crikey…. I absolutely do know how you feel. It’s awful being out of control and knowing it’s only going to get worse but I doubt they will let you stop the RT. The treatment is cumulative so it will continue to work so you’re not likely to get any respite and you are running a  big risk in the treatment not working.
Please try to hang on you CAN take it even though you feel you can’t.
What pain relief are you on? I had long acting morphine twice daily on top of the oramorph and it was a revelation, a complete game changer.
    Sending you a huge hug.

  • Hi As Dani says I still unlikely they will allow a break in treatment it’s cumulative and if you take a break you don’t know what that would do. Even during Covid people in treatment who caught Covid still had to go in if they missed a day it was double the next day. What pain relief are you on ? Are you getting enough hydration I was told 2-3 litres of water every day to help flush the toxins out. It’s hard but please try to stick with it.

  • iam on the slow releass morphine and oral morph but its helpinh but only to the point i can swallow once here n there my throat is almost closed up due to swelling any worss i going to have to call 999 i constantly got a rattle of phlegm iam having to spit out as i can not swallow i cant carry on as iam going to choke on my throat closing all together as its not far that now non stop thick mucus as well i sound like i got a rattle in my throat constantly as well i cannot get worse or i will end up choked from my throat closing due to swelling up so much x

  • That is exactly what a couple of patients at my hospital are going through and they also constantly spit out their Phlegm which is the major problem. Do you take Caphosol mouth wash 4 times daily as that gives you back your saliva which helps with the phlegm. I do get that every so often and know how awful and stress fall that is, probably the most I’ve panicked with this stressful time.

I took an extra spoonful of morphine tonight so managed to get some sleep. If I see that patient I mentioned to you today I will see how he is doing as he is on his 5th week like me. I know that he couldn't swallow anything orally after week one.
I really hope you don’t need the 999 option tonight and it can wait to discuss with your oncologist in the morning. You may be given a CT scan like I had last week so they can see the problem. They haven’t told me any results yet, so perhaps they have moved the treatment area as the inside of my cheek and tongue is red raw and so painful although they don’t really tell you anything unless you ask.
Check out buying a humidifier for the bedroom as someone on here mentioned they can help. Let me know how it goes as daytime things are more copeable. I sometimes put some vick at the base of my neck which can help or at least I think it does and calms me down xx
