Very frustrating. I just had my appointment with my oncologist tomorrow, cancelled. They haven’t had the results of the throat biopsy taken last Wednesday and now I’ve been told it will be another week to ten days.
I was really hoping for it to come back and confirm it is all one and the same thing and now, who knows! Stay calm, right?
Hi Stefan
Yes stay calm. It’s a real nuisance but sometimes these biopsies take 2 weeks then the MDT has to discuss them. The teams don’t meet every day either so that adds to the problem.
It doesn’t help but try not to panic. Don’t read anything into it.

Like Dani said, keep calm Stef.
It's more important that you get the right treatment rather than quick treatment, I was told that on several occasions when things seemed to be dragging.
Metastatic SCC diagnosed 8th October 2013. Modified radical neck dissection November, thirty-five radiotherapy fractions with 2xCisplatin chemo Jan/Feb 2014. Recurrence on larynx diagnosed July 2020 so salvage laryngectomy in September 2020.
Hi Stefan
like everyone has said the waiting is the worst part but it’s important to get it right. They have to discuss it st s multi disciplinary meeting bringing everyone together to discuss your treatment. In my case it took 10 days so don’t get stressed easier said then done xx keep in touch sending Hugs xx

Hi
Like others have said my experience says a 10 day turnaround is good in most hospitals. Then the MDT had to discuss options and finally you get to discuss them.
It is not easy waiting, but it is important to get the right decision. In my case by biopsies were so confusing that at one stage they went back and reviewed the whole sequence and did further examinations to ensure I got the most appropriate treatment - in my case not to proceed from surgery to radiotherapy at this time, that may come later.
Good luck.
Thanks, that’s good to hear. They meet every Tuesday so I guess I’ll hear next week. I want them to be thorough, I just don’t want to hear there’s negative findings, when I’m just getting my head around what they’ve diagnosed already.
I’ll know soon enough and who knows, they might downgrade it!
Hi Stef61
This happened to us too. Very worrying and frustrating.
My hubby Ken was all set to start his chemo and radiotherapy the following day when we got a phone call to say it would be delayed a week. Reason being, the oncologist wanted the radiographers to be a bit more daring and get closer with more zapping power to the parotid gland.
We were upset but sure enough he started the following week and got the right treatment.
It also happened to me with my breast cancer. The team suspected there was more lurking around and sent me for an MRI. These results took 3 weeks as there was allegedly only 1 person in the trust who could read and evaluate the scans. I ended up calling for my results from a sun lounger in Corfu! And it turns out there was more cancer meaning a mastectomy was the only option.
So I guess I’m saying, it’s difficult and frustrating but it’s better to have delays now in order to get the correct diagnosis and treatment.
Good luck!

Thank you Sharon
You’re completely right and I want them to be 100% certain with what they’re dealing with. I know they have my best interests at heart and have to hope that they do not find anymore.
I shall be able to let you know soon enough.
thanks x
