Had a letter from my hospital at London today, they don't think I am at risk for the op,but the recovery afterwards.i am swinging to and through surgeon said I was 25/1 of not surviving.do I have the op or 7 weeks daily radiotherapy with side effects speech etc.i don't feel I can make the right decision.specialist says 80 percent chance of radicating it,or a year to survive with no treatment.i still don't know if in my left neck .what do I do ??

  • Really sympathise with your predicament but I'm sorry, nobody here can tell you what to do.

You obviously have some serious thinking to do but you really need to talk to the experts, either at your hospital or you could try calling the Macmillan helpline and be guided by them; we'll always be here to support you however we can whatever your decision but ultimately only you can make it.

  • So is the surgeon giving you differing information to your consultant?

  • I agree completely with Mike

Your MDT comprises all the clinicians involved so that your surgeon and oncologist and radiologist work together. I am surprised that you would be expected to make such a monumental decision alone.
Might it be useful to take somebody with you to your appointment whether it’s face to face or by video and make sure they properly explain to you so that you really understand the options?
