Where to start, everyone was phoning me when they heard the news and was told they had a rota made up ready to take me to treatment on Thurs and Fridays (days I won't have the car) . This thing appears nobody wants to do it incase they "infect me".I would rather people tell the truth and say what they really think. People want to be seen to do the right thing but when chips are down------:
Sorry I'm not a vindictive person just a rant
Only they will know their true reasons, but I've found a lot of people around you get scared when they have to deal with your cancer. Full of good intent, but the act of helping brings to a sharp focus their own mortality. You find out who your truly strong friends are.
Good luck with the treatment - and we all need to rant occasionally.
That must be horrible - feeling your ‘friends’ are deserting you. BUT THEYRE RIGHT. If they have the virus and don;t know, sitting in a car with you is a good way of passing it on, and assuming you’re having chemo, that puts you at massive risk. I don’t know the answer -public transport not ideal and a hospital car has same risk. But your friends are correct to worry about your risks. PLease discuss with your team. If you have a friend who is close to being in isolation, and many are, they may be a good option.....Sorry its another anxiety for you. If your other posts are anything to go by, I dare say you will find an amusing side to this...

Hi this whole business has many unsurities (?) Decisions made, decisions changed. Teeth before therapy a must, then may have to get done after therapy. Is it worth putting a pause on r/t before it starts. There is cases of treAtment being halted half way through.which can be worse .
Paul
Paul.
I’m sure your team will resist delaying RT.
SCC is an aggressive fast growing cancer. I asked the girls doing my mask and planning scan about RT over Christmas and New Year when mine was scheduled. They told me that because of the nature of oropharyngeal tumours they would be making up the time by either stopping the following weekend break or giving me two doses on one day when appropriate.
As for your friends not ferrying you about I agree with Hilary.
As for friends’ well meaning comments I regularly got, “Oh, that’s awful for you” followed by a long diatribe about some friend/relative/ colleague who had a protracted fight with cancer then died horribly!
What are some folk like???????

Im so sorry that you find yourself in this position I'm sure they are not doing it because they don't want but its because they have been told not to take risks. Maybe you could suggest to them into wearing masks so you both can wear them. I don't really know of any other instant options. Please don't let this get you to upset as you have been so upbeat and supportive throughout your journey so far, as Dani said I very much doubt they will cancel halfway through as its defeating the object. All the best in these sometimes difficult times.Virtual hugs all around.

Hi Paul
You aren’t on your own we’ve all probably been through similar scenarios , in my case sister in law was going to cook for john when I couldn’t eat .She took great delight in my cancer in first few weeks but no cooking ever appeared , instead she spent most of time telling people who we vaguely knew how much support she was giving us ,Imwondered how my diagnosis spread through village so quickly. How did I know people crossed the road when they saw me coming .
Like others say to start with people are supportive then they realise s.t this is real .In the end John got made a chilli with baked beans !!!! Needless to say he binned it
stay strong we will become your new mates , remember we’ve been there got the t shirt read the book etc

Morning Paul
I think its fair to say cancer treatment is going to be difficult in these unprecedented times.
I absolutely don't envy you at all.
At the hospital we went to (James Cook, Middlesbrough) they offered patient transport. Can you use that?
Re the "friends", I think this is common in ordinary circumstances but in these circumstances its perhaps understandable in that friends / family don't want to give you Corona or catch it themselves.
Of course it may just be that they are not very nice.....I don't know them. We found we got the most support from the most unlikely people, mainly my work colleagues who also took Ken under their wing. Some cousins and 1 friend rose to the challenge and the others were useless and just left us to get on with it.
Ken's radio was through the Christmas period so he had to do Saturdays as well. This facility was only available for the urgent H&N cases.
I can't even imagine your stress levels right now. Chin up and keep going!
