Hi all
I finished radio/chemotherapy 11 months ago after tonsil cancer. My work has asked if I'm classed as vulnerable but nobody seems to know the answer. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Short answer is I don't know I'm afraid dugster, you could try the Macmillan helpline on 0808 808 00 00; if you get an answer maybe you could come back and let us know.
I'd also like to know if having pneumonia in 1994 which put me in IC for a few days and hospital for a month and left me with scarring on one lung would be relevant; I suppose I should ask someone really.
Metastatic SCC diagnosed 8th October 2013. Modified radical neck dissection November, thirty-five radiotherapy fractions with 2xCisplatin chemo Jan/Feb 2014. Recurrence on larynx diagnosed July 2020 so salvage laryngectomy in September 2020.
Ouch dugster. It was a pulmonary oedema that nearly did for me the morning after they let me out of the ICU and onto a ward; woke up and could barely breathe (because I was drowning on the inside). No time even to take me to a theatre, I was immediately surrounded by swarms of people and I had to sit leaning forward while they put a chest drain in through my back. Strangely the most painful part for me was my legs cramping up because of the unnatural position. Still have the scar on my back to this day, I call it my "bullet wound" because it looked a bit like one; and as a wise man once said, "scars are tattoos with better stories".

Hi I am niw 19 month post radiotherapy for tonsil cancer with several affected lymph nodes, I have looked in cancer U.K. site and they state after 3 months chemo we are no longer classed as vulnerable. As long as no blood or bone cancer involved .Thunk I input something Like Coronavirus and chemotherapy in search bar. There is also info on the www.bahno.org.uk site look under news it gives info about what check ups they are advising as we will no longer be called in for regular check ups freeing time for other appointments in my case 18-24 month thu k I will get a telephone call. Don’t take this as gospel it’s what I’ve researched

Ah. I found your BAHNO link
The way I read it is that they are suggesting prolonging follow up appointments for those past the highest recurrence risk period of 18/24 months. That ties in with what my oncologist said, that once you get past the two years you chances are pretty good.
Interesting to see that they are suggesting that chemo radiation is abandoned for just RT. That makes a lot of sense

Hi Dani sorry thought you knew about BAHNO ive a link to it from blog . Yes I agree with your reading of it Dr Sen has always said the same re 2 year mark and suppose in current climate it’s wise I know a girl who was due her 6 week check this week and ended up with a telephone consultation instead of risking her health going to Leeds .he pet cat scan has been extended as well to 22 June finished treatment early February again to keep her away whilst chemo could still have an effect in Coronavirus.Ts a good site don’t put a lot in it but Dr Sen gave me the link , he’s the overseas lead for them
take care keep safe

Thanks Hazel
I found somewhere that said 9 months, don't ask me where I found it I can't remember! Either way I'll probably go to work. And to be fair they'll pay me either way so I'm lucky that way
Cheers

Morning everyone.
Ken is 9 weeks post treatment and we’re treating him as vulnerable and he’s going nowhere.
I just think even if he’s not more vulnerable (than someone else who hasn’t had cancer) he’s been through enough lately and doesn’t need anymore pain and discomfort.
Unfortunately I think we’re all going to get it but flattening the curve seems sensible advice to me.
