My husband had cancer in this throat 10 years ago and had chemo an radiotherapy.  He has been fine all that time but 5 months ago started losing loads of weight (4 stone) and cannot eat at all.  He has been diagnosed with having cancer of the eosphogus (sorry can't spell) at a very high point (C8 T1 region).  He has been told it is to high up to have surgery.  We are awaiting to go for a PET scan to see if spread and if not will they be able to do radiotherapy again because it may be near site he had first time round.  Has anyone on this site been in this position having had radiotherapy twice in a near by area.

Please does anyone know as radiotherapy has got more precise now 10 years on.  Like everyone else I do not want to lose my loved one.

  • Hello Boomoon, sorry to hear that cancer has come back, I have only had one course of radiotherapy that was after my first operation for cancer. This was back in 2008 and it returned in 2009 and 10 but it was all dealt with by operations as I had used my quota of radiotherapy up after my first operation. As you say 10 years is a long time and procedures and treatments have changed and there are more precise treatments. I have known people who have had a second lot of radio but did not know their circumstances, I'm sure they will think about the possibility of more radiotherapy or chemotherapy but cannot say for certain. Best wishes, take care.
