Hubby has done his 6 weeks as some of you now, but towards the end, he started getting very bad headaches (which is highly unusual, he's not normally a headache person). Doctors were non-committal - one said it was unusual and t'other said it could be a RT s/e.
Bottom line is that he's now experiencing daily, excruciating headaches usually late afternoon. He's photophobic and the pain is either above his eyes or back of head. Nurofen meltlets dissolved and put down the NG tube provide some relief, but I'm concerned at the sheer amount of analgesia he now requires.
Any thoughts team?
My mind has been wandering to dark places :-(

Hi Pip
Sorry he's feeling this on top of everything else
They sound like migraines
Maybe it's just the stress of it all?

Hip Pip, just keep an eye out for another week (if possible)then go back and tell them your concerns as it cannot be much fun you or your husband., don't let this suffering continue and please do not wander into dark places as it only makes matters worse . Best wishes, take care.
Chris x.
Thanks Chris
No fun at all but am keeping a close eye on everything. It's all so much worse than we could have imagined, despite being told it would be tough!
Pip
Hi Pip
I hope you’re keeping as well as can be expected.
Don't worry about the amount of painkillers hubby is taking. There’s no medals for being brave. He needs to take it all if he needs it. At some points I used to think Ken was drugged and high as a kite on the morphine but he needed it. I just thought we’ll worry about that later.
He’s 7 weeks post treatment and only taking 2-4 Co Codamol a day now.
He also suffered with headaches but not as bad as migraines. He still has them now. He’s also dizzy a lot but consultants didn’t seem concerned. I’m going to make him an appointment at GPs for a blood pressure check.
We also found it much worse than we had anticipated, even though we’d read everything and learned from others. It’s definitely the toughest thing we’ve been through. Ken has gone from a very strong man to a very weak one. I know it will improve though.

Hi pip
Just read your post about your hubbys headaches.
My hubby is midway through week 5 of treatment. He started with what we thought was sinus type pain behind his eyes a day or so ago. Today he has taken to bed. The pain is also in his neck too. He vited after his peg feed this morning which is something he has never done before. He has had the odd bout of nausea but that's it. I went up and encouraged some liquid anti sickness ( through rig) ao have taken up some co codamol. Not sure if he's taken it or not. He is not a willing patient .
Did your hubbys headaches subside? I do hope so x How are you BOTH doing?
we are at hospital later as he has his radio . After today 1 Chemo and 7 radio .
Best wishes

Hi Lisa
The headaches stopped as soon as RT stopped so I'm guessing a correlation. Nurofen meltlets dissolved and put down the NG tube seemed to help a bit.
We are now end of week 8 so 2 weeks post treatment. Still up and down. He was eating morsels of soft food but can't do that now and it's probably because he's no longer using Fentanyl patches. He's less knocked off but still had considerable throat pain and feels that the mucositis is changing as is the coating on his palate. He's started taking nystatin again in case it's thrush. Had a new tube put in last weekend as the original one fell out but apparently he did well to keep it in for 5 weeks.
I seem to be developing a cold and am terrified of passing it onto Pete, and even more terrified in case it's CV - that seems unlikely. I have been out socially twice in 8 weeks so it seems a bit unfair! I expect I picked something up in the hospital pharmacy.
Hope you're on top of things and coping
Pip
