Hi all I'm now 4 months post treatment still trying to eat at best a few mouthfulls as no taste makes the whole eating experience awful still surviving on ensures I thought by now I would have some taste back any advice thank you.

  • Hi Bradlou. give it another 2 months and you should find it a bit better, you might find the tastes you liked before might not taste nice and the ones you did not like might agree with you. Most spicy things tend to be off-limit from what i can remember. I reckon it took a good year before my taste recovered to an acceptable level. Sorry, you are still on the Ensures, join the club Slight smile. All the best and hope you see an improvement soon, take care.

  • Hi Bradlou

    just give it time.
Even then you’ll find your taste might change from week to week

Im 13 months out and can taste and eat most things in that I can tell what I’m eating but that taste is not the same as I remember. Food is no longer a great joy for me any more though I do get excited cooking it for my husband and me. The frequent disappointment is a small price to pay for being alive and well. I’m still improving so there’s hope but I suspect it might never be what it was.

  • Hi Bradlou

It was round about the 4 month mark when I recognised the taste of a carrot.  I finished my treatment mid August and remember being excited at Christmas that I could at least taste something.

It's a case of trying lots of different things frequently - even a small mouthful.

    Here's hoping!

Hi,  I found that I could taste oxtail soup and I think gradually your taste buds improve, sometimes I find things taste fairly normal for the couple of mouthfuls then the flavour diminishes .
