Hi , I wondered if anyone else who has had lymph glands removed and tongue surgery have experienced burning mouth syndrome, swollen tongue or pin and needles type effect in their mouth? Any feedback would be helpful . Thanks
Hello Scamper1, i have had a small bit of my tongue removed plus lymph nodes,, have you also had radiotherapy as this would certainly cause some of these effects. It depends how long ago you had this surgery, if it's been done within a month to 6 weeks then i would say its just part of the nerves healing ref the pins and needles. Most areas that have been operated on will swell up then gradually come back down, but the burning I'm not sure about unless you had the radiotherapy. If you are worried that it seems to be dragging on and too uncomfortable then please let your team know. Best wishes and hope things start to feel comfier in your mouth, take care.

Hi Scamper1
I had a neck dissection, base of tongue surgery and radiotherapy. My treatment finished in August 2018 and I still suffer with a slightly swollen tongue and a burning sensation on my tongue. I was told this was as a result of the radiotherapy. I havnt found any way of reducing this so far unfortunately and the head and neck team haven't got any suggestions either.
Sorry I cant be of any help but my team did say it does happen to some people.
Linda
