Tooth out

Well the wisdom tooth is out of the irradiated jaw. It came out easily with very little jaw disruption so that and the fact that it’s a maxillary molar gives me hope of a complete and perfect recovery. Just to be OTT I’m surviving on Fortisips for a few days so that I don’t have to chew.
Anybody that has to have a local anaesthetic in their palate might do well dosing  themselves up with Diazepam first Joy

No mention of ORN just dry socket. Perhaps we overthink these things.

Well done Beesuit - I'm sure you were very brave! I know you know all about risks and all about ORN, but your risk is very low. 4-5% of post-radio to jaws patients will get ORN, but the vast majority of these are spontaneous, not following extraction. The simplicity of your extraction, as previously described, is also good and the upper rather lower jaw further reduces risk. Fingers crossed you heal beautifully.....

    Hi Beesuit

Well this is interesting , Harry was all set to have a wisdom tooth out today , nothing at all wrong with it just a flap of skin near it where food may become trapped . The dentist at Castle Hill gave him this special toothbrush to use . They explained in 5 years or so it may become decayed and BEFORE any treatment to remove tooth he would need to go in a hyperbaric chamber etc etc.

Anyway , long story short - on way to hull received a call to say hygienist had called in sick and his appt was cancelled. After coming off the phone , Harry decided he wasn't going to 're book and was not having tooth out . So he hasn't.

That said I do hope you are ok and not too sore

Im sure he will be fine.
    Hyperbaric treatment is contentious.
There is much evidence pointing to it having no effect.
I had an OPG ( one of those panoramic X-rays) before treatment and the dentist said everything was good. 4 months after RT finished I got toothache. It was actually periodontitis.
    ORN is actually quite rare

can his dentist not just trim the gum round it? Or is it an impacted molar?

Not too sore, thanks. Onward and forward Smiley

    Hi beesuit

Thankyou for your reply. I have mentioned the triming of gum to Harry . He agrees and is going to mention it to dentist ( local ) when he has a routine check up later this month. It is not an impacted molar.

    Many thanks
