I had to have a peg re-fitted just before xmas due to weight loss following removal of soft palate. It was ok initially but I started doing some weight lifting on my home bench and since then its been really painful just inside where tube goes into tummy. Do you think this could be cause of pain?

  • Hi tibbsy, well done in starting the weights, it could be this causing the pain as the stomach is maybe getting tighter and more muscular or you have pulled something inside. I have never done weights so I'm only guessing, the tube could be pulling tight around the stoma, or it could be a simple infection like I had a month ago where a case of using antibiotics solved the problem. Maybe lay off the weights for a while and see what happens. Good luck keep up the good work

  • I had a bit of over granulation, it's where the wound tries no naturally heal from the inside and was quite painful for a while.

They gave me some cream which was amazing and stopped it pretty quickly, can't remember the name of the cream but ask your team, they will know.

Made it to Christmas, made it to my birthday, had a nice summer, made it to my 2nd (and 3rd) Christmas now writing a blog about my treatment - https://www.1in1440.co.uk/april-2018-you-have-cancer/

  • Lifting weights especially if you fix your diaphragm will tense the abdominal muscles so I think your diagnosis is spot on.

Thanks once again Chris. Sought advice of Abbott nurse who came out to see me really quickly. Got antibiotics and some steroid cream for around stoma area and am staying off weights! Seems to be less painful. Fingers crossed!!

  • Funny enough Tibbsy12,i have just had an Abbot nurse around to change my feeding tube, they are pretty good if you have problems, i use hydrocortisone cream if my tube is a bit sore or red. Hopefully, you are back on the weights soon. Take care.
