Hi everyone, just wanted to ask if anyone had head pain after having a neck dissection for throat cancer? My friend had a neck dissection in November & every day she is getting a pain in her head like a dull headache! She is getting radiotherapy for 5 weeks starting the 10th of feb, I’m just worried if she’s already in pain how she will cope with the radiotherapy.
she has had radiotherapy before so knows what to expect. Her cancer is now not curable but is treatable so just need to take every day as it comes. It’s just worrying me her pain in her head. The consultant has said to drink more water & take pain killers but I feel like there must be a bigger reason than being dehydrated.
I feel like asking her to ask for a head scan but don’t want to panic her! Any info would be much appreciated.

Hello Sky, I never suffered from this but maybe other people on here have done so might be able to offer better advice. I can see your concern with headaches, she/you have done the right thing in mentioning it to her consultant. I would follow his advice, as I'm sure he will and if things get worse or do not improve then let him know, I doubt if they will do a head scan just yet, but by all means, keep an eye on your friend's condition maybe keep a diary of her daily feelings, pain etc so you can show the consultant. I think letting her team know is a good thing
i didn’t have a neck dissection but I do know how much pain gets referred from tense neck muscles. Maybe you could enquire about some physiotherapy?
