hello
I have critical illness insurance and would like to hear from anybody who has experience of making a claim for any medical insurance purpose
my diagnosis is T2-N2b-MO. and after 15 years of paying I sure hope this qualifies.
many thank
Hello sailcol
I had a similar diagnosis to you in 2013. I claimed on my critical illness insurance but unfortunately they turned me down. I wish now that I'd argued with the decision but I was struggling with my treatment at the time and couldn't cope with sorting it out.
I would suggest you ring the Macmillan advice line tomorrow as they have people there who are experts with all this financial stuff. You might be able to get some help from your Citizens Advice Bureau too.
Good luck with your claim.

Thanks for the reply.
think I will canvass solicitors to get there take on it
Many thanks
Hi Sailcol,
That diagnosis is an invasive tumour so I can't see any reason why you wouldn't have a valid critical illness cover claim (I used to work in a life insurance claims team). Ring the company's claims team and they will talk you through the claims process.
Hello Sailcol, i did not have critical cover but ,it was just life cover, but i did get money paid out to me because of the cancer from my insurance so im not sure how it works . Im pretty conviedent that you will get paid . Also if you have outstanding credit bills that are covered by .P.P.I (personal protection ) As i say im convinced you will be paid in full, you dont have to die to get . All the best .

Hi, I'm afraid I don't understand the abbreviated diagnosis but if it is an invasive cancer then the insurance company should pay out. Don't involve a solicitor at this point; they, quite rightly, charge for their time. If the insurance company won't pay initially ask your financial adviser (if you used one to purchase the policy) to speak to them on your behalf. I am a financial adviser and I successfully claimed on my own policy earlier this year. No hassle, no problems, just lots of cash.
Good luck.
Keep smiling,
CS
Hi
sorry to hear you need to claim.I claimed this time last year. my cancer is malignant melanoma of unknown origin.when it was found it was in the lymph nodes in my neck .because it had already spread there was no question about the claim. a couple of phone calls and some paperwork ,some very helpful staff and within a month the money was in my account. one letter from my consultant to confirm my diagnosis and that was that. no stress or added worry during a very difficult time. didn't believe it until money in account ! paid my mortgage off ,one less worry.
the best of luck with your claim and treatment.
Dee ( ALL CLEAR ONE YEAR !! )
Thanks all for the replies.
I was forced to take this cover out 15 years ago by the bank or they would not give me an overdraft for my business at the time.
I can't remember anything more than that and worried They won't pay out because I forgot I had a back pain or something else unrelated to let them off the hook.Â
We all heard the storiesÂ
Hi
I had critical illness insurance taken out 10 years before my diagnosis of an rare sinus tumour in 2010. My insurance company paid out with no trouble at all. I needed a letter from my GP and hospital consultant confirming diagnosis. 6 years later, after surgery and RT, I am very well with no recurrence and I use the insurance payment for trips to visit family abroad. Obviously I no longer have life insurance but I figure I'm better having the cash now!
I'm sure they will pay out. Good luck.
Fiona
I had critical illness cover. I phoned the insurance company to ask, they sent me claim forms, which my Doctor filled in for me. Got the money. then got a letter to say they were cancelling the policy.
I am scared to spend the money, I have, some of it. But I am very cautious. I finished treatment last year in December (SCC in the tongue which was also in my lymph glands in my neck).
I am seriously considering asking to go part-time at work, I still can't manage a whole day, I am so tired. And my memory is shocking. My brain also goes fuzzy when I get tired. I am trying, but work won't put up with it much longer.
That insurance money would help, but not til I get my early pension - I am 48.
