Cervical Screening Invite

I received my first screening invite following Cervical Cancer in 2017 and ignored it as I was still having regular checkups. I received another invite Nov 2018 and ignored it but when I mentioned it to my GP in Dec 2018 she said I should have attended. I have to have it under some form of pain relief as very painful due to vaginal dryness and scarring etc. The Hospital told my GP I was not to have a screening though. Jan 2019 I was told by another GP that I needed to attend the screening so again the Hospital was notified and again the refused. I went back to my GP and was told a referral and been created as I have 50% of my cervix so I must attend the screening. I waited and was sent a number to phone to activate referral on Mar 14th. I was told to wait a week and ring back for my screening appt. I rang back as instructed last Thurs and was told there weren't any available appts so when the clinic contacted me I could attend. I have heard nothing since.

On top of all of the above I have been experiencing incontinence issues when I run and having seen a GP today they have referred me to the bowel clinic for further investigations. I am sure this is long term radio damage but coupled with the screening issues above I am sick with worry. I have been signed off work with stress for the past 3 weeks and I am really struggling mentally and emotionally with all of this. My main fear being the obvious return fear factor of Cancer but also that aswell as managing early Menopause, Surrogacy through IVF and my screenings not happening for the previous 2 years I may now face incontinence.....

Does anyone else have these issues right now?

  • Hi runningback,

Ive not had your experience but I do have surgical menopause and understand the anxiety that check ups bring. I had womb cancer and have had a total abdominal hysterectomy. Can you ask the hospital if they can fit you into their clinic for a smear test, or your gp? Maybe you could have one at a sexual health clinic? That's what I'd try, everywhere I could think of.

If you are having dryness my CNS prescribed me hyalo femme, it comes with an applicator to get right to the top of the vagina, and I also have sylk on prescription, both really help.

surgical menopause is the pits isn't it, I'm finding the emotional fall out and my bad memory the worst parts.

i hope that you can get an appointment soon, let me know how you get on

    lots of love

    xxx
