Hi,  Is it possible to get travel insurance with secondary breast cancer while on fulvestrant and palbociclib?
I am recently diagnosed with mets in hip, just had hip replacement to help with pain on fulvestrant and Zometa starting palbocilib tomorrow and I love travel.  Was looking to book a UK cruise in August then holiday abroad later in year but unable to get insurance for even UK cruise!, I have no other health issues (54)  so upset because my future/dreams  have been cut short and will be devastated if I can’t still travel while I am reasonably well!

Any help tips?  Need something positive to look forward to

  • Hi Maxmum

Insurance is not impossible. I think at the cruise insurance is a little more difficult because they are asking for such a high amount of cover in case of medical evacuation. Covid of course has made this more difficult.

Can I please point you in the direction of the travel insurance group here in the community.  There are several good insurance companies mentioned there which might be worth a try.  I'll put a link HERE for you.

    hi

I have never benn refused holiday/travel insurance from the right companies and always at a reasonable price.I

I have used BOOTS as the best company, they have always offered a good price and cover, the only down side you cannot organise it until 3 months before travel.

I hope this helps, i was on similar drugs to you last time i traveled in 2019.

    All the best

Thank you for your reply Sapphie,  Unfortunately Boots no longer accept new people for travel insurance .
I believe if I get a stable scan it may help my case , just so fed up , all we really like doing is travelling and have so many places in world I still hope to visit.

    Hi Maxmum

I am sorry you are finding it so hard to get travel insurance and cross Boots are not accepting new people as I too love to travel. There are others I have had quotes from but cannot recall their names.

There are 3 main insurance computer programmes companies use, one asks lots of questions e.g. Boots, these tend to offer the best deals if that is any help.

Hope you find a good company. Happy travels

  • Not what you are wanting to hear but there may come a time when insurance is not an option.  January 2019 I was to work in Canada for a few weeks and my wife wanted to come.  She at that point had secondary breast cancer in her liver and bones, none of the specialist cancer travel insurance companies could help - once the premium passed £4k she was classed as un-insurable.

So we went ahead anyway, fantastic time, as we had the weekends off and dined out every night, working on the principle if something went wrong I would shove her over Niagara in a barrel.  Now she is coming to the end of her struggle we have some fantastic memories of Niagara at minus 30C, ice skating, getting lost and finding an amazing seafood restaurant and shopping in Toronto underground.
