Hi. I was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer in March this year following a pleural effusion. It was discovered I also had advanced ovarian/peritoneal cancer. I have had six cycles of chemo and I’m likely starting Niraparib soon, once the chemo is out of my system. The doctors will decide whether I can take this new drug along with Letrozole for the breast cancer. I’m seeing the Gynaecology Oncologist later this week and will find out then if the two drugs are compatible. I was wondering if anyone else has had both these cancers and what treatments they had. Incidentally I survived thirty years after the primary breast cancer!

Hi. I have stage 3 breast cancer with spread to left axillary nodes. This is all since October and comes after chemo and debunking surgery for Primary peritoneal cancer. I had just started on my maintenence Avastin 3 weekly. I am BRCA negative but they want to relook at my genetics as this can't just be coincidence.

I am having a left mastectomy next week and hope I heal quickly so I can resune my Avastin as the ovarian cancer will be itching to get rampaging again. My prognosis is 3 to 5 years.... And I am approaching a year since diagnosis of my primary peritoneal/ovarian cancer.

It's all shocking but all you an do is stay informed, positive and hopeful. My impressions are we are quite unusual.  Thanks

    Linda

    Hi

Sorry to read this. I have bc mets all over really including ovaries.

I'm er+ so am currently on palbociclib and Letrozole and zoladex and denosumab - fun!

We are rare I think getting ovarian mets.

Sending love and support and just want you to know it's not just you. X

It was lovely to see your reply Linda as I haven’t come across anyone fighting both these cancers at once. I too don’t have the faulty gene. I have now started Avastin treatment for the ovarian cancer, along with Letrozole for the breast cancer and thankfully side effects aren’t too bad (so far). I try to live as normally as possible now I have more energy. Only Covid holding me back from social side of things. I’m feeling positive and so thankful for modern medicine and the treatments available. I hope you are coping well.

    Hi Marzo

Thankyou so much for taking the time to reply. Its somehow comforting to know there are others with the same predicament.

Im so glad things are going well for you now. I just want to get my mastectomy and node clearance done this Tuesday and then get healing quickly so they will restart my treatment for Ovarian ca again. (Avastin)  I read that I will probably have chemo for the breast cancer residue too so not sure how that will all work.

I am HER" positive so will need Herceptin.   I am going to be swimming in toxic stuff but know I need every last drop of it all.

Ive been a bit wobbly and emotional this last few days but getting my lady armour on now ready for hospital Tuesday and then portacath insertion on 1st Feb.

Again thankyou for writing and keep your chin up.
