I am going to start taking this targeted therapy next week. If anyone has experience of it I would be keen to hear about it.

  • Hello MaCa

I am sorry that you have not yet had a response to your question but sometimes it can just take a few days longer for someone to see it and reply.

I have not experienced targeted therapy myself but have found some information that may be of help.

Elacestrant (Korserdu) | Cancer information | Cancer Research UK

Elacestrant (Korserdu) | Breast Cancer Now

You are also welcome to give the Support Line a call and speak to one of the nurses about the new treatment and they would be able to advise you on the medical aspects.

Hopefully by me responding it will now bump your post and someone who has experienced the same treatment will now be able to offer some support.

I wish you well for your treatment and if there is anything that you need, then you know where we are.

    Jane

  • Hello MaCa

my mum started this treatment about 5 weeks ago. She has experienced extreme fatigue with it and in the last few days has been vomitting shortly after taking the pill.

She hasn’t had a scan yet so we don’t know what difference it is making to the cancer but this is her experience so far.

Please keep us posted with your experience.

  • I’m sorry your mum has had such a horrible time. I don’t feel as bad as that but I do get tired. My consultant gave me an anti sickness prescription, which she suggested taking before the Elacestrant, which I take around 6.30 pm. I am lucky as I don’t often need the anti emetic. I won’t have a scan until the end of March so I don’t know yet if it is working. I make sure I take it with a meal but I expect your mum does that too. Please give your mum a gentle hug from me x

  • Mum had a few nights not being sick but she has just been sick again tonight. We are soo disheartened. Mums appetite is minimal at the moment. She had some soup and a cracker at about 7:30pm Then took her chemo pill at 9pm. She was sick about 45 minutes later. The pill hasn’t come up. I told her she needs to take the pill WITH her food. She is taking anti sickness tablets spaced out evenly through the day.  I’m very worried that if this sickness continues she will not want to take her tablet anymore

  • Oh that’s not good news. We are all different so what I do may not help at all but here goes anyway in the hope that it might! I have my breakfast when I get up which is usually around 9 am. I like porridge made with water and a small amount of stewed fruit or a mashed banana. I also have 5% plain, thick yoghurt with the porridge. I have a bit of toast with butter mid morning and a meal at about 12.30 - something plain with protein as the main item.  Again I have a small snack mid afternoon, maybe a couple of digestive biscuits (the low sugar ones) or a small sandwich. At between 6 and 6.30 I have soup with bread and I take the elacestrant right in the middle of eating it. I rarely eat anything else before bedtime. I have a dodgy digestive system so I am careful with anything that has sugar in it and my main meal is at lunchtime but isn’t huge. I try to get out for a short walk in the afternoon which helps to get rid of the wind that I am plagued by. I do hope your mum can find a way of taking her elacestrant without being sick afterwards. I also take a Cytoplan multivitamin to help my immune system .  Best wishes

  • I told mum that she needs more in her stomach when taking the tablet so tonight I will share your story with her and make sure she takes it WITH her meal rather than after.  Thank-you soo much for your reply - I couldn't find any other mention of this drug in the forums.  I will keep you posted and thank-you again for sharing your experience. Lisa

  • Elacestrant is only available for quite a narrow group of Stage 4 cancer NHS  patients in England. My MacMillan nurse doesn’t yet  have anyone else but me who is having it. I feel very lucky to get it but won’t know if it is working until April.

  • How is your mum?
