Hello all
I wondered if anyone had any hacks/ tips/tricks that helped keep their neuts above 1 at the start of each treatment cycle. I have had to delay my treatment starts for a few months due to low neut. levels.
I Have a balanced diet with lots of veg, drink plenty of water, take vit D &calcium supplements. Will be adding iron and magnesium into the mix too.
thanks
I tried all sorts but nothing seemed to bring up low neutrophils. I asked about diet and they said there’s nothing specific that will help. They’ve also raised the level to 1.5 now due to Covid. Sorry this doesn’t help but I know how you feel - trying to live a healthy life and yet treatment being delayed almost every time because of something you can’t change. Hope it’s ok for you next time xx
Hi Greenery
The only 2 sure fire ways I know of to help increase neutrophils is a couple of bags of blood transfused or a course of G-CSF injections.
Have you been given G-CSF ? If not you could ask if this is or the blood transfusion is suitable for you to avoid this scenario.

:) Thank you you are a fount of knowledge! I wasn’t aware of either of those options but I will now ask my medical team if it is suitable for me. Thank you!!
Hi Greenery
TBH I'm surprised no one in oncology hasn't mentioned this to you already - unless there is a medical reason :-/
G-CSF can cause a bit of aching upper leg (femur) and pelvis as these are the large bones where most of the white cells are made.
Hope it is suitable and they ok it G n' J
There may be a medical reason however I hope it’s suitable too ! It pays to be informed and I only wish I had asked sooner on here. Thank you again!
I spoke to my nurse today and she explained that medically, those options aren’t suitable.
My low neutrophiles works differently to someone who may be on chemo. so GCSF injections/ blood transfusions won’t work in the way that I need it to. A little confusing but from what I gather my neutrophiles are good quality but not enough when treatment starts. The way to tackle my issue is to play with the dosage or have a longer break between cycles
