Hi, I'm on letrozole, the monthly injection , cant remember the name to start menopause, 2nd cycle now and I feel moody, up and down etc, is this normal
Hi
Is this injection Goserelin also known as Zoladex ?
If so that coupled with the Letrozole will cause your Oestrogen to diminish quite quickly. As oestrogen is one of the 'feelgood' hormones lowering this can cause several menopausal type issues, so yes the way this is making you feel is very normal. This can ease in time as your body gets more used to the lower oestogen level but if you are still suffering any of the side effects there are ways these can be helped.
You can read more clicking this link to the Maccy Goserelin/Zoladex info page.
No doubt there will be other members here or in the main breast group also taking this who could give you more experienced replies.
Hope this is of some help, G n' J
Yes that's it , the name of the injection. I'm also taking palbociclib too . Thanks for the reply
Hi
There are a few ladies on similar regimes either with Palbociclib (Ibrance) or Ribociclib (Kisqali) plus oestrogen busters. Why they insist on giving the same meds 2 dif names, it's confusing.
Typed Palbociclib into the community search and the messages containing it can be found here for you to have a browse through - You may find someone to have a good 'chat' with.
If you use the Information & Support tab at the top of the page you can search to get extensive info about most of the meds used also treatments/cancer types etc.
Noticed you found the 'Positive Stories' discussion and it's great to see you settling and finding the place helpful
Hugs, G n' J
Hi Nicnic88,
I am on a similar treatment plan to you - I was diagnosed with Secondary Breast Cancer on the 18th November last year. My first cycle of treatment was on the 9th December and I had my second one last week. I have monthly injections of Zoladex (Goserelin) and Denosumab plus tablets of Letrozole, Palbociclib (Ibrance) and Ad-Cal calcium.
I have clinical or chronic depression, have had depression since puberty and am now 50 so it’s been an unwanted ‘companion’ for most of my life. I take prescribed meds for it and in the last few years am finally on the right strength of tablet. Basically I am on an even keel with the depression but last week for the first time in ages, I said to my partner that I felt ‘flat’ - this lasted for a couple of days and I am now fine again. I just wanted to inform you of my situation as it may help you - I can’t better ‘Dreamthief’s’ response as I naively didn’t realise oestrogen is a ‘feelgood’ hormone. As I am peri-menopausal and last had a period in September, I had to have the Zoladex injection as my cancer, like my Primary back in 2005, is oestrogen-receptive.
I personally feel it’s great that you are still working - I left my job shortly before I was diagnosed but I was no longer happy there plus was experiencing severe exhaustion so I am currently taking a break and doing voluntary work.
I wish you all the very best and any questions, please ask me.

Hello,
Some days I feel up others I feel down. Tho I'm still working I am not enjoying it now and I dont know if it is the medication or not. I went away over the weekend just me and my 2 dogs and I had such a great time, came back yesterday and bang its hit mr again. Its frustrating as I cant pin point what's making me unhappy.
Hi Nicnic88,
We have something nice in common - we both love animals. I grew up with a Border Collie plus a variety of Siamese cats. I haven’t had a dog since I was 18 but I do love them.
Obviously I don’t know you and I’m not a counsellor but if feeling down is quite unusual for you, then I would imagine it’s a mixture of the lack of oestrogen plus the shock and/or adjustment to your diagnosis. Being away at the weekend with your dogs and really enjoying it provided you with a deserved break from reality and returning home has hit you with a bump.
Can you ask at your hospital or clinic (where you’re having your treatment) if you can have counselling? I had therapy for a while at my previous hospital back in 2007 when I was going through a rough patch. Have you a Breast Cancer Nurse (BCN) to ask or check directly with Macmillan.
Or does your employer provide it? Some firms provide telephone counselling under a scheme called ‘EAR’ or a name like that..
Last but not least, be kind to yourself XXX
