Hey Wave

Got diagnosed on 30th Sept 2025. Have had 2 doses of EC (3rd Nov & 21st Nov). Used cold cap.

I have thin hair but (usually) lots of it.

Read advice here so only been washing my hair twice a week. Today, I reckon i lost about 30%. It was handfuls.

I guess my question is, will today be it and I'll keep the rest for a while? Or is this the start and once it starts coming out it won't stop?

Appreciate any advice!

  • Good luck! i’m not starting chemo until 2nd January.  Part of me is almost longing to get started now just so I can get it all over with! But I’ve got this flipping re-op first on Saturday. Rolling eyes

I’ve heard from all my trawling that MooGoo products are great for the scalp. And the few things Daniel Field told me that you could add alongside MooGoo are:

    • Make sure your hair isn’t piled on top of your head. If it’s long, put it in soft plaits (either side or behind).
    • Don’t be shy about telling the nurses if the cap doesn’t feel right e.g. if it’s bubbling, lifting, or not snug.

They also said a silicone pad on the top of the scalp can help improve the cap’s contact. Daniel Field sell one as part of their booster spray pack, but they said they are also on Amazon. I haven’t found it on there, but have a look. You have to fit it lengthways across your parting.

The key is that the cap fits properly to your head. There are three sizes, and the fit really is the most important part of hair retention. The silicone pad helps stop the little “toupee lift” effect some people get where the cap doesn’t quite touch the top of the head.

Good luck with it all. Sending  love. Happy to share the full instructions they sent me if you want to DM me. You don’t need their products to do most of it. Xxx

  • Thank you so much for this information i will look at the silicone pad, I am getting a pixie cut next Friday as I cannot imagine seeing long strands on my pillow. I will definitely try to make sure that the cap fits snug and the nurse told me about the hair band trick along the forehead to help with brain freeze headaches. Wishing you well and let's keep in contact.

  • This is what their pad and hairband look like! Kind of looks like a sanitary pad Rofl but I guess it’s made of silicone. Wishing you all the best! We’ll get through the treatment and have happier future months ahead.xx

  • Pixie cut sounds sweet! Like Mia Farrow in the 60s! I’m not brave enough to cut mine,  but imagine I will if my hair does fall out. Looking at the stats it seems fairly likely you still lose about 50%. But I have wild Irish hair.so can probably get away with some hair loss. Sorry - so vain about it! Good luck xx

  • I am also the proud owner of irish hair however I am now naturally grey so it will help me get over not been able to dye it Wink

  • My chemo nurses put a sanitary pad on my forehead to prevent the brain freeze and it worked really well!

Also get yourself a silk bonnet as that really helps protect your hair.

And paracetamol before you start (but after temperature is taken), and apparently a banana helps. Am gonna try the banana next time.

For info, during my 2nd dose I did notice that when I pressed down on the cap it was lifting away when I removed my hand... and I didn't say anything! Big mistake, lost a lot of hair from the top all in one go. Just dont be afraid to really tighten the straps cos contact to scalp is key. Someone else mentioned wrapping a scarf round and under their chin to pull it even tighter.

  • That's a good idea will do that with a scarf Grinning

  • Hello.

I was the same, a lot of the top came off like a toupe. Some of the back has come off too.
    it’s very strange.
I always have to have something on my head, as if I don’t, it feels weird.

    Sending hugs. x

  • Good luck with your treatment. x
