Hello lovely people,
I was diagnosed a couple of weeks ago, with IDC, luckily it all seems positive as in it doesn’t seem aggressive, an op followed by radiotherapy and hormone therapy after that. I did have a sneaking suspicion as my family history dictates I would be lucky to miss out not getting cancer in one form or another. I feel quite practical about it bar the fact I no longer have my immediate family for support, they have all passed very sadly, incl my sister from multiple myeloma. Anyway I’m booked in for a lumpectomy and sentinel biopsy in a few weeks, and would love some recommendations for a post op bra please? I’m a DD cup, and have read to go up a size. I’ve also spotted a cancer research bra/crop top, the one with pink hearts around the band? Are they any good as they look comfortable. Any other hints and tips post op would be very welcome. Many thanks
Hi!
I recently had a lumpectomy, and like you, I'm a DD. Before my surgery, I bought a Macom Signature bra, and I’ve honestly been living in it ever since, only taking it off to wash. All the nurses and consultants who’ve seen me since have commented on how nice it is! It’s a bit on the pricey side, but I think it’s totally worth it. I got it in the clay color so I can wear any top over it and size small which fitted perfectly.
I hope everything goes well for you! Take care x
Hello, would love to give you advice but my breasts are small only 34A so went without a bra. Dr said it was fine. I know that you will find many great suggestions for a bra and want to wish you good luck with everything.
I had the same plan as you but did not need SNB as latest information was not needed as tumor was stage 1 grade 2 and only 3mm and I was over 70. My other breast had DCIS so everything was double treatment but feeling good and positive. Took time to get to that head space. Sorry your family support system is not there for you but all of the propulsion this site are wonderful. Hugs to you.
Barbara
Hello, I got a 2 pack of post surgery bras from Asda, which I found to be comfortable and supportive and very reasonably priced. I wore the same size as I usually would. (I'm a bit smaller than you but I think they may be good for you too).. I hope your surgery goes well
I think it depends how much tissue is being removed. My first surgery was a straightforward lumpectomy and I found the M and S front fastening bras and post surgery crop top great. I then had to have a follow up mammoplasty and because this left me very lopsided I also invested in a macom bra like Suffolk92 and it has been amazing. I have also found sports bras good too once past the initial recovery.
Sorry you don’t have immediate support, wishing you all the best x
Depending on the styles you like, I wore a zip front Nike high support bra I already had for running so is designed to hold everything in place(!). Really comfortable and snugly fitting and the compression helped with swelling. It’s slightly padded which felt protective too. I also got some excellent crop tops from Primark (they are called ‘Invisible’ ones, £8 each, can get different styles of matching knickers). I sized up for those and still wear sometimes now as they give a nice shape under closer fitting clothes. These were also great for radiotherapy as could wear them and be covered up while getting ready and slip down to my waist during treatment. Best of luck with everything and please know there is lots of support here, just shout if you have any questions. x
Hi, I found the M&S post surgery bra to be pretty good but also I picked up some crop style bras (also M&S) to wear when sleeping and to be honest, even a few years on, I'm still using these. Best wishes
I am / was similar chest size - my first op removed 55mm DCIS and 2 invasive tumours (20mm and 4mm). So, with margins etc, quite a lot of tissue was taken. Incredibly the visual impact on size was very small. The procedure I had moved my nipple and so that looked different. Your BCN or surgeon should be able to give you an idea of impact.
I am pragmatic too Schtompy but there is a lot to deal with - make time to take care of yourself too. X
