Abemacilib - when you stop taking it

Hi, I have been on abemaciclib for 18 months, along with tamoxifen, and the laste 3-ish months I have been extremely tired, much more so than usual. I also have achey thigh muscles when I go up stairs or stand from a chair. Not the most horrendous side effects I know but the tiredness is really getting to me. I don't want to lower my dose so I will persevere with it, until the end of the 2 years.

Has anyone got any experience of how quickly you feel better (if at all?) once you come of abemacicilb?

Thanks

  • Hi, I finished my 2 years on abemaciclib on May 3rd this year. I definitely feel better now and hope to improve some more. I’d say the first 2-3 weeks the improvement in how I felt was due to the psychological boost I experienced, but I am now definitely less tired and the mild depression has lifted.
I went through on the 150mg dose, though I felt very ground down last winter and this spring. I asked about lowering the dose, but was advised that my blood test results did not really warrant it, best to stick with 150mg. So I did, but I had a few infections and not a lot of energy. A low point was developing a “running sore” on my leg in March.
Letrozole hadn’t bothered me much at all in the 4.5 months I had it for before adding abemaciclib, so I’m hoping for improved balance, slightly thicker hair and less flaky finger and toe nails and skin less dry.
I had trouble with watering eyes and blocked sinuses , but that has now worn off.
Anyway I’m so glad to have finished the pills!

    All the best to you!!!

  • Thank you, that sounds positive. It does just grind you down, I was ill the whole of April and May with one thing after another, throat infection, chest infection, sinus infection. Bloody wearing!
