Good Evening all .. I’m having a single mastectomy on the 14th and just wondered if anyone else was due the same soon and would like to chat to support each other .. many thanks
Hi Suzanne,
I’m newly diagnosed with DCIS and seeing the surgeon soon. What did the Dr say about your biopsy results? Was the abnormality seen with a regular 3year mammogram? Good luck for the 14th, I’ll be thinking of you too as that’s when my meeting with surgeon is. X
Sounds like you have made your decision about the mastectomy. Don’t know if you have read this article but it was interesting about ability to do lumpectomy on breast with 2 to 3 tumors. Is interesting.
Wishing you well with the upcoming surgery.
Take care.
Barbara
Thank you Barbra for your message , and well wishes , x
Hi Suzanne- I hadaleft breast mastectomy on the 8th March. Although I thought I had come to terms with it, when I first saw the wound, I was very very upset. however, thinking back the wound, and any surgical wound for that matter always looks awful immediately after surgery. Over the past 4 weeks the wound has become less swollen, and less bruised. I have used arnica for the bruising and bio oil to help heal the scar. Soft bras are the new norm at the moment for 24/7 and sleeping on my back is something I have to consciously work at. However things do get better. Just take all the help you can get and do what your health professionals tell you to do. I was just in for a day, which I understand is the norm, but really do take it very easy when you get home. It is scarey, no doubt, but you will get through it. Good luck, and let me know how it goes. with love and support xx
Hi Suzanne
I had a single mastectomy on Tuesday with reconstructive surgery. For me personally I think I would have found it harder to not have reconstructive surgery than to have it, but that is a personal thing. If you have any questions please ask x and good luck x
How was your reconstructive surgery performed? Xx
Hi
using the tissue from my stomach for me personally this was the most suitable option x
I have decided to have delayed reconstruction because I know I will have to have chemo, and for me, thought the best option was to get that out of the way first, as I think that I won;t be feeling at my best for the next few months. The other reason was that I didn't have enought time to research and talk to either professionals in that field or to anybody that had already had reconstrucion. It would seem there are many options, so for me thought it best to wait. But, we all have to make our own decisions on that one.
I’m due to have mastectomy and been advised it’s unlike I will be able to have reconstruction at same time and the NHS waiting list ( Glasgow ) is 4/5 years, I hope all goes well for you and you are well soon x
