If the cancer has been fully removed and there is a clear margin, however the lymph nodes are positive for cancer, how fast does the cancer travel to the rest of the body?
Having lymph node involvement doesn’t always mean that the cancer has spread to the body ?
I’m so sorry Godwillling, not sure why but I’ve just seen your reply!
thanj you for your positivity. I really hope everything will be fine. But I also have read that some sort of treatment needs to be given before 12 weeks of first surgery. So I’m now worried about that, that that’s going to delay things. It’s just so stressful
Daizy03 I completely understand your anxiety while you wait for the next step. It is so hard. In many ways the worst part of what is happening. Your mind races on and you grapple with the unknown. I have done a fair bit of waiting. Two of fourteen nodes that were removed were positive. My CT scan had not shown any spread elsewhere. I got my oncology appointment last Tuesday. In just one week I have been scheduled for chemotherapy and that will be followed by radiotherapy. All the known cancer cells have been removed so the chemo etc is being done to kill any stray cells that are anywhere. I was assured that as the lumpectomy and auxiliary lymph nodes had been cleared it was highly unlikely that there could be any further spread. You are correct that there is a 12 week window during which treatment should commence. I will be just outside it but I accept that I can't do anything about that. Your mother is very fortunate to have your support. My daughter has been very supportive to me and it does make a huge difference. A positive outlook is very important and I am trying very hard to have that. I hope that both of you can find things to enjoy together. I go for walks with my dogs and try to enjoy nature. I take each day one at a time and try to enjoy it as much as possible. I also keep busy with things that I like doing. I hope and pray that things will get moving very soon for both of you. All the best. I am sending you and your mother a virtual hug. Take care.
Hi best wishes for your results, let us know how they go. Just wondering if pain could be linked to lymphodema which you mentioned xxx
It is really hard
I just called because the breast care nurse said to call her if we don’t receive the ct scan appointment within a week. So it’s been exactly a week, but she wasn’t in. Anyway, the admin checked kindly but unfortunately there was no appointment made. So I’m not sure what’s happening with that… feel really stressed as it’s going to be 5 weeks soon since the operation and doesn’t seem like we are getting anywhere and the fact that there is positive lymph nodes are making me feel worried sick.
aw I’m so glad they that your ct scan showed no spreading. How soon after the op did you have the ct? Or how long did you wait? Thinking if we should do it privately but then confused how the information can be sent over to the surgeon.
aw bless you and your daughter, and well done for trying to have a positive outlook. Although it is difficult we do need to maintain that
Hi , I am waiting for results of third surgery to see if they have managed to get clear margins, although the consultant surgeon told me the cancer is out I am still not convinced they have got clear margins yet? Yes I do have clear lympth nodes so that is a good thing. I am waiting for results on 23rd and this will determine if I can start chemo etc. The waiting game is actually worse than the cancer in my mind. I am trying to learn to take one day at a time but sometimes my mind just runs away with me and I break down in a mess, all natural I am told but hard at the same time. Like I said I will definetely need chemo as my cancer is a grade 3 and her2 positive so will be having herceptin as well as that is the best treatment along with chemo. x
