Hiya, I have a few questions I was hoping someone could answer for me regarding myself worried about breasts cancer and my grandma who is being treated for breast cancer.
firstly, my grandma. She is 62 with multiple co-morbidities and currently has a rare for of cancer in her breast which they believe due to catching Covid-19 has now spread to her kidney and lungs. She already had COPD and diabetes and they will not operate on her Tumor which is extremely large and has actually come out of her skin now and is wrapped daily by a community nurse. My worry is she is in so much pain and has no idea what is actually going on with her cancer, she was originally told she did then didn’t then did again have cancer now she was told on her own on a Friday evening with no staff it has spread wA discharged from hospital and nobody has offered information since, who can she speak to about this? Palliative care have not gotten in touch as she was told they would and I feel awful for her.
secondly, me! Hiya, well I’m 25 breastfeeding my toddler who is 2 and feeding from one breast is extremely painful when he catches the outside like makes me cry painful. I have had several physical examinations and one brief ultrasound but I myself find an unusual rigid edged squish lump about a cm in my breast which the doctors don’t pick up on or tend to investigate which worries me. I have dense lumpy breasts and hate checking for this reason and my prolactin is very high. I also have palpable lymph nodes in my armpit and collarbone.
so really my question is
1) what did your lump feel like?
2) is a squeezing arm / numb ache a concerning symptom?
3) do cancerous lymph nodes grow? I have two in my armpit and one collarbone which have been here a year tho e same side as the breast which hurts and burns on and off but they range from half a cm to 1 cm
thank you so much for reAding x x
Hi Becks001xxx
so sorry to hear about your grandmother’s situation. I hope she gets all the help and care she needs.
As far as your lump is concerned, what was the outcome of your ultrasound report ? As you have family history, you should be on the 2 week pathway and investigated . My lump felt like a bean shaped rubbery firm mass and was tender at times. Lymph nodes do grow with time if cancerous. Please take this seriously and follow it up with your GP and breast consultant both. Feel free to ask any further questions. Will be happy to help as much as I can. All the best
Hi Becks001xxx, so sorry for your grandma can't imagine how she must be feeling. It doesn't sound like she is being treated very compassionately. Can you call her palliative team instead of waiting for them to get in touch?
With regards to you it's best to keep complaining to your doctor about your breast issues and push for them to investigate thoroughly so that you get a definitive answer. You have everything to gain and nothing to loose. Chances are high it's nothing and it could also be mastitis I imagine. The infection which is what mastitis is could well have caused your lymph nodes to swell because thats what happens when there is an infections that they are dealing with. I had mastitis and the pain was excruciating. Interestingly I think I had mastitis in the breast that developed cancer but 22 years after the mastitis. Best to be safe and get checked.
I couldn't feel a lump and neither could my surgeon. My cancer was picked up by chance as a result of my first routine mammogram.
Hope it all turns out to be nothing. xx
Hi there, and I'm really sorry to hear about your grandma. When best cancer has spread to other parts of the body they rarely operate, but will give treatments like chemo, hormone blockers (if it's oestrogen positive) and sometimes other newer treatments. She shouldn't just be left like that. Do you know the type of rate cancer it is, because some responds to these treatments better than others. Personally I'd go straight to PALS and make a complaint about her treatment, and ask for a second opinion.
A far as you are concerned I'd point out that breast cancer runs in your family, and women do get breast cancer at your age (increasingly so). I had mastitis in my naughty breast whilst and a few years after breast feeding. It messenger produced thr same milk as the other one for either daughter, both if whom were freed for other a year sho it had the chance! I went for tests on it 3 years before diagnosis because I was concerned about it, but thr scan and ultrasound were clear (not unusual in some cases) and no biopsy was done. They are interesting breast clinics. I had an ultrasound in January at mine on thr affected breast as I'd felt a small lump, which was thankfully scar tissue. I'm in London and at the time 62% of beds in the hospital were occupied by covid patients!!
Good lick, and let us know how you get on. Xxx
