I was diagnosed 12 months ago with Her2 positive breast cancer. Had a lumpectomy and full axilla removal followed by chemo and radio (finished radio on 5th Jan 21)and now having herceptin infusions 3 weekly.

During radio I had twinges and pain which was apparently normal in my breast whilst having radio  however i am in constant pain around the scar sights of the lumpectomy and axilla removal. The only way I can describe it is as though someone has punched me and both areas are painful to touch also. I do have a slight lymphedema in my arm (post lumpectomy) and wear a compression sleeve.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? I have been taking paracetamol for the pain but it doesnt seem to ease it at all.

  • Hi Sorry to hear that you are in pain- I think you should speak to your BCN regarding this. She is there to support you and has all the relevant details of your treatment. It may be that she will advise you to contact the Oncologist team or your GP. , but either way pain is not a nice experience,  when it can probably be treated with something else to relieve it. No prizes for suffering unecessarily, you need to have it sorted. Sorry if you think I am blunt but I do feel strongly about this. Sending you gentle hugs XX Kwissy

Thank you for your message Kwissy.

I have mentioned it before now to my radio team but still have the pain.

I am going for a routine scan Ct and Thorax on Sunday.

I do feel that I am being a pain when I mention it as I know hospitals are so busy atm and don't really want to see anyone so fingers crossed that my scan is good and clear x x
