I’m newly diagnosed with breast cancer and waiting for a mastectomy in a few weeks (first time I’ve shared this and even writing it is scary). I only have a small lump and lumpectomy would have been possible except that my EEC Syndrome makes it impossible for me to have radiation therapy without the risk that treatment would cause more tumours. It’s to do with gene p63 abnormality. So, I can’t help feeling that I’m taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut but I know that I have no choice. Every one of my close female relatives has had breast cancer (not BRACA related) - all 6 of them. I’m 68 and an only child as my parents chose not to have kids in case they also had EEC. I’m infertile also due to the syndrome. Im hoping that the mastectomy will be accompanied by DIEP but there is some doubt as to wehether I have sufficient tummy fat. I’m also going to be taking Letrozole although that also conflicts with some of my EEC symptoms.
