Hi everyone, I am 67 yrs old married with 4 lovely Grandchildren and a lovely 7 month old kitten. Scheduled for a mastectomy on the 19th February- next week. Just want it over with. Like the previous lady I haven’t cried yet, I don’t feel angry, or why me? I just want to get on with it.
I have of course read up lots about it. My surgeon has said I’m in for all the treatment, mastectomy, chemo radiotherapy and herceptin. I should have a normal life span he says, which is reassuring.

Unfortunately cancer in shutdown is very isolating I find. No coffee mornings to attend. I haven’t met any other patients yet. Anyway hello to everyone and I look forward to hearing from you.

  • Hi Anxious Anne and a warm welcome to the forum and sorry that you have not had a response to your post as yet.

Cancer at any time can be very isolating but even more so in this strange world we find ourselves in at the moment. I can relate to not being unable to have a coffee and chat it definetely lifts your spirits that's fpr sure.

There are lots of lovely folks on here and they will be around  for you to chat as much or as little as you like and there are chat groups in the forum like the  awake group where chat is about all aspects of life and not specifically Cancer related and many folks joined so do have  a look at that as well.

How are you feeling about the surgery it can be a scarey time when no one to talk it through with.

Sending some hugs your way and also some very best wishes for the surgery do keep in touch on here and let us know how you are doing and we will be thinking of you. xxxx

  • Hi

Another welcome from me, though sorry you find yourself here, of course.

i understand you wanting the surgery over and done with - I'm like that and it was a relief to know it was gone.

So, your surgeon has you down for the triple of treatment - I know it must seem daunting, but it's do-able and we are here to help you through. I know it must be odd to be going through this in lockdown and it does rather take away the chance to make face-to-face connections, but you can think of us like an enormous coffee meeting. We're very friendly and happy to support you in whatever way you need. Have a look around and join in wherever you feel comfortable. It's a very busy group an lots going on which can be great when you need some distraction or motivation. You'll get the hang of it as you go along. If you need a hand with anything - give us a shout and someone will be along to help.

Hope the surgery goes well on the 19th - once you've recovered a little, pop back and let us know how you're getting on.

  • Hi,

So sorry you have all this to go through. I went through it all,  started chemo in April 2019 followed by bilateral  mastectomy and 15 lymph nodes removed, then started Herceptin followed by radiotherapy I finished all the treatments in December 2019. (I am 74). I was terrified of it all, but although the chemo can be tough at times, the surgery and radiotherapy are nothing like your imagination is conjuring up. The surgery was nothing like I expected. I was only in over night and most of the area is quite numb for quite a while so no pain, which I was concerned about. Make sure you do the exercises straight away as they advise, even though they can be a bit painful. I do wish you well with it all. It's not easy with the virus and the lockdowns. A time when you need your friends and family more.....all the very best to you. xxxxx
