Hello I am new to this group as I was diagnosed with breast cancer last week. I am waiting for an op to remove a lump then chemo. I would like to ask about chemo and the side effects that people have had. Also what support my husband can get during this time
Thanks
Hi sorry to hear of your news,i would imagine its all a bit raw at the moment. everybody tolerates chemo differently. It depends on what type of chemo you are on there are a many types. For my self the i had it intravenous every 3 weeks, for the first week i felt tired, a bit sickly, and just under the weather, the other two weeks i felt well and carried on life as normal. What is important is there is a lot of medications you can take to help you cope with the side effects and i suggest you ask for any help you might need. You will have a breast care nurse assigned to you and they will help you through chemo. I am not saying its going to be easy but its a necessity and you will find the strength to get through.I wish you all the best, keep calm and safe x
SEP, I’m sorry you are having to join us. Wino gave you great advice there. I totally agree. With regards to your husband, my Breast Care Nurse said that he is entitled to counselling as well as me and so, if he needs to use services, he is equally entitled to these. Your Breast Care Nurse or Consultant should be able to highlight local groups for you.
I hope this helps.
