Hi everyone, I received my diagnosis last week.... I have an invasive ductal carcinoma.... Its stage 1 and very treatable- I feel lucky.... will need an op and radiotherapy. I tested positive for oestrogen receptor. I have been in HRT for a year so I have stopped that. I will need to take anastrozole for 5 years. I am worried about this as I had terrible night sweats which lead to insomnia & being diagnosed with depression- has anyone been in a similar situation and found a safe herbal remedy that helped??

thanks for any advice

  • Hi- welcome to the club no-one wants to join!

Hopefully someone who can help will be along, but my understanding is that the herbal remedies work because they contain substances (phytoestrogens I think) that mimic the effects of oestrogen on the body and therefore should be avoided in ER+ cases.

Any idea how long you’ll be waiting for your op?

My BCN suggested evening primrose oil for night sweats but I found that the Pregabalin I was prescribed for nerve pain in the hospital also worked to reduce them.  I suggest you get a cold pillow - I use the one from JML called Chillmax.  I don't actually use it as a pillow, I drap it over my abdomen when I get a sweat and it soon cools me down.  It chills by itself so once you have cooled down, leave it off and it will get cold in time for the next one.
