Hi Everyone. I’m Anne in York. I’m 69 years old and my breast cancer was detected on October 1 through my last routine mammogram. So thankful for the NHS. I’ve had my surgery and the tumour removed was grade two.
As I live alone it’s been very hard dealing with this alone. I have great friends and family who would come and stay but Covid prevents this at the moment. Family live in Tier  three and too risky.
Chemotherapy starts on December 16th and it’s all a bit scary. I’m trying to be brave.
How does anyone else cope on their own? Thank you.

  • Hi and so sorry you’re here.....

I didn’t have this problem, but do reach out here on this site and also (depending on where you live) there may be support groups geographically near you, it’s worth a search.

Do have a look at the monthly chemo thread in ‘treatments’, that may help you too.

    Hugs xxx

I am on my own - totally on my own and 64.
I was diagnosed in July had four sessions of chemo so far (and to be fair) the first three went well NO adverse side effects (Outside of losing my hair) the 4th session wiped me out and being on my own it was difficult but I managed. I am waiting to hear whether I am going to be receiving my next 2 sessions or whether surgery will be brought forward as the chemo has shrunk the breast lumps but not really the nodes under my arm. I was worried if I would manage being on my own - but it is surprising what you can achieve when faced with no alternative. In many ways, it was a lot easier as I could just go to bed and sleep, keep warm without anyone bothering me. I shop online sp food is all taken care off, a neighbour will get me anything and rings me to see how I am and have a little chat. Keep strong you can do it.
