Hi everyone
Just joined today. Recently diagnosed and been waiting for a surgery for a few weeks now with still no date. Got my HER2 results back yesterday (positive) so will hopefully get some news of a date soon. This is pretty scary stuff but I am lucky to have a very good family support network. Got 2 teenagers, worrying about my daughter as she's only 13 and seems quite anxious. We've not had the best of times recently though as my nephew passed away suddenly last month and we still have no reason why. Trying to stay as positive as I can as I know that helps.
Best wishes all
@lifesabeach Hello and welcome but sorry you find yourself here. I can see you've not had an easy time lately and now this!!! Hopefully once you get your treatment plan you will find things more manageable. This site is great for help and support or even just light hearted chat.
As Grogg says ' welcome'. The waiting for things to start is always a difficult time. Once you have dates and plans you can share with your daughter, she too may feel less anxious. At the moment the unknown is hovering all around her. Sadly, she probably only hears on tv of people who through various reasons and complications don't survive. Perhaps she will be pleased to know that both Grogg and I had our cancer over five years ago.? Neither of us have cancer at the moment. There are many people sucessfully treated these days. Treatments have become more indivual so deal directly with the type of cancer you may have.
Once you know what is happening you may have other questions or simply want to express feelings. You will find several threads about the treatments and these give you the opportunity to share with others at exactly your stage in the treatment. There is always a sympathetic ear mainly because there are so many shared experiences.
The Awake thread is there. ...day or night....for a chat, a bit of humour or to discuss serious worries.
Whilst the site is in the process of reorganisation you may find things move around a bit or change their heading but don't give up......you will find all the support you need if you keep looking through the changing pages!
I hope you have news and dates soon.
Love Karen
Hi Hello welcome to the site nobody really wants to be on but soon realise one of the best places to be for support and answers . Waiting is the worst time and once you start on your treatment plan things do feel better hopefully won't be too long . Sorry can't really help with teenagers reaction my children now adults .
One thing that has been mentioned on here is letting the school know what is going on . One school had a good system where if a child was finding it difficult in class she had a code word to use so she could leave the class for a break .
My story is on profile just click on my name to read you can also put a profile story on yours then people can know who they are talked no to .
If you read it you will see I am HER2 Positive diagnosed in June 2019 .
Have a browse around the threads lots of interesting ones jump in wherever you want to you will be welcomed . Ask any questions someone will answer but please leave Dr Google alone he out of date and likes horror stories
lots of pics on the walking back to happiness thread .lots of chat and laughs on Awake .
