Welcome to the September BC Chemotherapy Discussion.
This thread is for everyone that is having, or have completed BC chemotherapy to browse through, ask questions, answer questions and be there to help support and advise each other.
If you need any extra tips, our Chemo Tips Page is something you may find very helpful, and if you find a tip which helped you just reply to share with others who are also going through chemo. One top tip, ask about parking at the hospital where you are being treated; for some Cancer patients parking is either free or discounted - So it's worth asking about.
Macmillan produce this Healthy Eating booklet if you have any diet concerns MAC13612_Healthyeating.pdf
If you need to refer back a month here is a link to The August Discussion - Hope everyone is now getting more used to the community changes....
Don't forget all cancer patients are entitled to a 5 Year Prescription Fee Exemption Card from your GP for meds to help with any side effects.
Checking in for September here. I’ve got my third FEC tomorrow. Who else has chemo this week? I’m slightly dreading it but at least I will be half through. Best wishes to all
Kate
Hope side effects manageable for everybody . Last of 3 EC for me today
I have my first Docetaxel on the 9th, very much dreading that
Mid way scan shows tumour shrunk from 25mm to 9mm so heading in the right direction
I’m waiting on my start date - I’m cleared to start from Monday 7th sept but don’t have an official appointment yet. I’m in tomorrow morning for the pre chemo education session and I’m donating my hair and shaving my head on Friday.
the list of side effects absolutely scares the pants off me and I think it’s the not knowing which awful things I will get in the crappiest lottery of all times .
best of luck to everyone else in the same boat this month x
Hi everyone, not been here for a few days, been struggling the odd days and embraced the day or 2 of good days. My arm has taken a battering having to go back to take more bloods because the levels are not right. I fear needles now. Had my 3rd cycle yesterday, the F was dropped from the FEC so just had EC yesterday due to chest pains. Emotional, tired and stressed would be how I would describe my feelings at the moment. I have the next 3 cycles of Docetaxel to face now and I'm really not looking forward to it. I'm at the stage where my body just feels to stop but my mind is telling me it is going to be alright keep fighting. Hope everyone's keeping their fighting positive energy up, knowing we will be conquerors. Have a good day all and sending love and support for everyone going through chemotherapy this week and the weeks ahead xx
Hi FaithDe
Sorry this is brief - I’ve only got a few minutes before heading off to the hospital. Sorry to hear you’re struggling through chemo. I think it gets to most of us at some point. I really suffered with side effects with Paclitaxol but it changed my attitude somehow when someone said to me to think of it as your friend rather than an enemy as you’re having it to help fight the bad stuff.
So keep on fighting and try to keep positive as it does help, and it’ll be over soon and you will get through. Oh and I used to give blood regularly for 40 years - only since I’ve started treatment have I become scared of needles, even the little ones!
Good luck with your Docetaxel, and love, support and positivity to everyone having treatment xx
Hello Jools-50 and welcome.
It sounds like lots of us are going to start T together this month. We will have to hold hands and be brave.
This week the nurse explained what happens and they have given me a massive dose of steroids to take three days before.
Are you having Herceptin as well? With that and the Perjeta I will be in the ward for about six hours checking for reactions but the nurse was very reassuring. My date is 23rd so you will all be through before me.
After FEC yesterday I am feeling a bit rubbish but am still glowing from my lovely birthday and the video my kids made me. Everybody has said nice things which cheers me up.
The plus side of cancer is how family and friends go the extra mile to support me. I’ve never been so popular!!
Best wishes to all especially those scared of the next dose or still struggling with the last one. I’m sure it’s true that we get worn down as we go through. Be kind to yourselves today xx
Hi there, thanks for the reply :) my cancer is ER+ HER2- so I won't be having herceptin. Unfortunately in my case my CT scan has shown 2 small lung nodules, so I have another scan due in September to compare to the first. So I have that worry hanging over me as well as trying to get through chemo. I'm just trying to hang on to any positivity which is in short supply.
Happy belated birthday xx
