Anastrazole brands and acid reflux

My BC is estrogen +8 and have been taking Anastrazole (mainly Teva) for nearly 3 years. I didn’t get side effects until about 15-18 months down the line. Not so much joints but a general feeling of being quite unwell but cant describe it. Also the moods, anxious, weepy, etc all for no reason. Feeling unwell I found awful to cope with. Had a 4 week Anastrazole holiday February and did feel better. Retaking it I hardly had the unwell feelings but that may be due to trying different brands since. Thought I had cracked it with Accord 8 weeks (ish) ago but my acid reflux which I’ve had for years got worse a few weeks ago and has taken off like you wouldn’t believe now. Acid had become more often when the other side effects started, but still fairly copable.
Can I have solved most of my side effects for another with Accord?  It’s 24/7 in varying degrees now and PPIs not working well. I was already concerned about what damage the acid was doing when it started to get worse with other SEs and I was due for a scope 2nd April but of course covid put paid to that.
Would be so grateful to hear if this has been the main side effect of Accord to anyone else and if you found a solution. I drink Gaviscon like it’s going out of fashion at the moment!

Teva and Accord seem to be the main brands but I have had a couple of others too.

Many thanks for reading.

I can't help you with 'acid reflux' as a side effect..... but, I might be able to help you with the acid reflux..... I took Gavison by the bucket load, when out took Zantac tablets and then moved on to strawberry flavoured Gavison tablets.... virtually one after the other.  If I bent down it would trigger it, I could only lie on my left side in bed... as soon as I would turn over onto my right side it started off straight away.  I had this for some 4 years I think.....

Then I get a lung infection, I breathed in a 'crumb' from a piece of toast, I went to sneeze, took breath in and the crumb went 'down the wrong way' as we say.  A few days later I have a mild pain in my back - over the lung area.  I had a triage phone call with my doctor how said I had got 'bacterial pneumonia' Fearful  and prescribed me some antibiotics.  I have had antibiotics before but not on a regular basis.

It was s 5 days course of antibiotics, I start taking them.... just before I finish the course, I phone Doctor as pain still there, not as bad, but still there. I didn't want to 'stop' and then 're-start' - it was at the time when they saying too many antibiotics are no good for you and to finish course etc. Doctor gave me 2 or 3 extra days - and during this time the pain went......

Now then... what I noticed was I think it was either 2 or 3 days in to starting antibiotics my heartburn had 'stopped' completely stopped!!!

I was shocked, I didn't know what had happened or why.  I looked the antibiotic up "Clindamycin" and it said....   I had a Doctors appointment few days, so when I was there I told the Doctor, I said, I couldn't believe it but this antibiotic  had stopped my heartburn, I had it for years, taking Gavison by the bucket load... he replied.... that this antibiotic although it can irritate the throat (I never experienced this) it can kill a germ off that many people have in their stomachs that 'caused heartburn/acid reflux'....

The germ that can lie dormant even from birth is called 'Helicobacter pylori' many situations can trigger its onset.

I remembered the name by thinking about 'helicopter' Nerd  - I then looked up 'Helicobacter'

I think it has a 'nick hame' of H pylori treatment:
    The antibiotic is called "Clarithromycin"
(the internet says.... that H. pylori (shortened Helicobacter pylori) is resistant to gastric acid, penetrates in high concentrations into gastric tissue and mucus, shows excellent antimicrobial activity against H. pylori, results in a high cure rate when used in two- and three-drug combinations.....
I didn't take any other drugs as I didn't even know about this. The antibiotic was to treat the bacteria pneumonia - the side effect I had was it cleared by heartburn/acid reflux.
Hand on heart to this day, I have been clear of heartburn/acid reflux for around 4 years now.... I have had heartburn say 6 times maximum over this time - and that naughtily as been due to excessive eating and maybe weight gain. It has lasted for an hour maximum.
Now I know I have posted on here before about this.... its not the same for everyone, many can have various reasons for the heartburn/acid reflux - but I have had to let you know this 'in case' you could have the same cause as me - I hadn't a clue it could be treated, I never even mentioned it, I just thought it was a weight and food related cause.
I know I have waffled on - I wanted you to know about this 'in case' you have this - it is well worth asking the question; you can ask your Doctor over the telephone.

I really hope this helps xx

I'm hoping this makes sense - only my mind says one thing and my fingers type whatever they like x
  • Hi and many thanks for that. One of the reasons I was due to have a scope was to look for “helicopter’. Have to give up PPIs for 2 weeks before Grimacing. Doctor in desperation did treat me for that some years ago without a scope but it didn’t seem to do anything.

I first started with acid 15 years ago when I developed a heart arrhythmia and standard practise was to take aspirin. Aspirin did it for me even with the enteric coated ones. That was stopped about 10 years ago but the damage was done. I managed for years quite happily on a low ppi. Age is a factor and over the years it became a little more frequent and had to up the PPI. Then BC 3 years ago (tomorrow) I started Anastrazole and the acid began having a ball last 18 months or so. Last couple of months as I said before the acid is 24/7 and having an orgy., hence now wondering if brands of Anastrazole can have that one effect.

    Thank you for replying
