Does anyone have any tips please for diets? Foods to avoid whilst dealing with cancer.
I'm paranoid about Deodrant and had to have my mirena coil out so wondering about birth control and also that my daughter has a coil x
Hello,
I was advised to cut out dairy products. I have. I don't know if it will make any difference but I am triple negative so once chemo and radiotherapy had finished, it was over to me to keep cancer away. I thought....what would I think if I ignored the advice and it comes back.....so I have followed it. It's not hard , helped I suspect by vegans, and I rarely feel deprived. I swapped diary yogurts and desserts for goat and sheep milk products. I swapped cream for soya fluid in cooking and thick soya if I want cream. Tea used to be difficult then about 2018 PG Tips developed ' perfect for non dairy' and it is. I add almond milk and the tea is normal. I found almond milk in ordinary tea personally disgusting!. I swapped butter for plant spreads. Luckily I only drink black coffee.
In addition to the above I try to watch my weight so try to reduce sugar and fat. It is a struggle because the first side effect of the pain killer I have to take for nerve damage from chemo, is weight gain.
I have changed my deodorant to aluminium free and my shampoos and shower products are paraben free. Again on aftercare advice. However, I am not neurotic. If I am tempted by something or visiting or in a restaurant I do eat items with dairy/ sugar.
I had my cancer in 2015. It has been clear since. I will never know why or if......but I'm happy with myself that I have tried to help the situation.
Hope all goes well for you.
Love Karen
Hi
I'm just out of the other side of all short term treatments and did not follow any special diets, I believe that just eating healthily and exercising when you are able will help not only your mental and physical health but will also make recovery from any treatments quicker (it did for me). Do bear in mind that if you're having chemo your appetite may be impacted and for some its a case of eating what they can when they're able.
I've used organic products for over a decade so no aluminium in my deodorant...didn't however stop me getting cancer though! Wasn't the primary reason for being organic thankfully...
Good luck and hope you find food that suits.
Sam
