Hi, my name is Kerry and I’m 49. I’d leukaemia aged 18, last year I’d Stromal sarcoma and had a hysterectomy. I’d a follow up phone call in May from my oncologist. Went through questions and I said I’d been having diarrhoea every day. So CT was ordered. It showed up something in my left breast. Upshot was high grade stage 3 cancer. I’d a lumpectomy on 20 July. Yesterday I saw my consultant. While they’re happy they got all the cancer I can’t have radiotherapy as they think I’ve Li Fraumini syndrome. Radiotherapy too high risk. So I’ve to have a mastectomy on 11 August xx
Crikey you've had quite a time of it all, on the plus side you are being listened to and action is being taken (its my habit to find the silver lining!).
How do you feel about your current situation?
Sam
HiI You have found the right place for help and support.Fingers crossed that you are able to keep getting on the site (recent update is causing a few problems) Sorry to hear that you are needing a mastectomy but the doctors are taking action and hopefully they are being supportive. Sending big but gentle hugs to you xx Kwissy
Oh heck, what a lot you’ve had to cope with!
but a mastectomy is do-able, honestly. In these awful times I would guess you’ve not been given the choice for any reconstruction surgery at the same time? I hope that, should you wish, you’ll get the chance at some stage.
take it easy, a general anaesthetic takes anything up to 3 weeks to leave your system, but do remember to do the exercises given, you don’t want to end up with a stiff shoulder on top of it all! Allow yourself some time, too, to grieve as this is a loss, after all.
if you find the nights keep you awake and you want to ‘chat’ then do join the ‘AWAKE’ thread, there are often folk also awake and posting, you need to perhaps be a little loopy as the regulars call themselves fruit loops!
sending you a big hug xxx
Moomy
Thank you mommy. I found this encouraging as I have just been told this week I have to have a mastectomy, which was a shock, and yes no reconstruction available at present.
Kerry good luck with your mastectomy. You’ll be a couple of weeks ahead of me. I’m on a waiting list of 4 or more weeks.
Thanks Sam, honestly don’t know how I feel tbh. I usually try and look for that sliver lining too xx K
Thanks Jejke. Good luck also for yours. The waiting is all so hard, the self isolating before hand is horrible also! Apart from medical appointments I’ve been indoors since 11th July
xx
