I had a mastectomy in April 19 and am waiting on recon. I had a lot of nerve pain in the following months and with physio and massage it went. I’ve had pain and tightness around my chest, shoulder, arm and back which the consultant agreed wasn’t down to nerves and at the last appointment talked about fat grafting to stop the pain. Apparently they don’t know why it works but it does. Until the pain is resolved he doesn’t want to deal with the recon. I’ve also tried amitriptalyne (excuse the spelling!) which made no difference. I didn’t need chemo or rads.
Once covid hit my follow ups with the cancer doctor & plastic surgeon were cancelled as I’m not considered urgent. I’m dealt with by 2 different hospitals.
In recent months I’ve worn my underwear and prosthetic more and for longer, mainly as summer clothing is light and see through and I feel too self conscious without anything. I’ve noticed that when I take it off the pain I have is worse and today it’s become really painful. In December I had a bone scan because I was worried everyone was assuming it was post mastectomy pain which came back clear. It feels like under my arm is swollen but I can’t feel any lumps but then i didn’t find a lump originally, it had a pain in my breast.
I will call my BCN on Monday but wondered if any one else has noticed what they’ve worn has caused them pain? Or anyone else that has post mastectomy pain syndrome, what has helped you? xx
