Hi I've just been told today that I need to have a Herceptin injection and that I have to stay at hospital for 6 hours afterwards!!! I knew I had to have the injections but no one mentioned the long observation time is this always the case?

Hi
Yes it is just for the first one, to check you don’t have an adverse reaction. I had my first chemo and Herceptin together and was in the chemo unit for 10 hours, most of that time just sat there under observation. After my main treatment finished it was a quick trip to have the injection (I worked next door to the hospital the time) I usually waited longer than the injection took ....
Good luck , I am now almost 4 years since diagnosis - life does get better again.

Hello Audrey68
Yes I had to stay in 6hrs after mine. Take magazines and chat to other patients. We had tea and coffee available so time soon passed.
