Hello ladies,
I was wondering if any of you could recommend any shops/websites for wigs. My mum is 53 and has just started chemo for breast cancer. She’s happy with a scarf at home but wants a wig for work. We’ve had a look at some websites but she reckons they’re all for younger women and ‘would look awful’ on her. Preferably not anything too dear- I’m only 17 so can’t afford anything expensive!
Thank you
Hi rose08,
I’m 51 and just started my 1st chemo a couple of weeks ago. I got a list of wig places near me from my cancer nurse and got a free wig through McMillan nurses. Ask your Mum to find out as I believe I got a voucher to cover the cost of mine. I’m in Scotland so not sure if that makes a difference. Hope you Mm gets one.
PS mine is a nice bob length one but I also ordered a long multi coloured unicorn coloured one just for the hell of it if I’m having a down day.
Hugs
Sandra

Hi Rose08
I'm sorry to hear about your mum. My only daughter is a few months short of her 16th and I understand this is a difficult diagnosis to deal with as a teenager. I don't have any details of shops/sites etc. but just wanted to say that the Breast Care Nurses are fantastic people and are not just for your mum. If you can't find answers on anything to do with your mum's treatment or if you're worried and cant find the right information, you can call them. If it wasn't for Covid, you'd have probably have met at least one of them and they would have told you that in person.
I had a bit of a panic and melt down over lockdown due to treatments being cancelled several times and a friend stepped in and spoke to the BCNs a few times and got things sorted for me. They really are great so don't be afraid to call them, either for yourself or on behalf of your mum.
There's plenty of threads on here for different things and this community is always welcoming and supportive. No question is silly and has probably been asked before so feel free to ask, moan or just have a chat.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
