Hi Sandra / Sonjha
Best place to read some tips and advice and get 'chatting' to other ladies having chemo would be to check out the May Chemo Club discussion in this group. There is a 'chemo tips' link in the very first message. If you have any questions just hit any reply button and your message will appear on the latest page (page six I think)
You should start feeling a fair bit better in another day or so - up to day 7 is usually the worst :-/
Enjoy the Pina Colada weather take care, G n' J
Good morning.....just to let you knowSonjha that you are not alone while you are having your 'nasty' days. You don't say exactly what the nastiness is and it will be easier to offer advice if you feel up to saying.. ..but just in general..
For sickness.....ginger in an infusion can help keep you hydrated or nibble on a ginger biscuit.
For a sore mouth.....make sure you use a mouthwash( without alcohol) regularly. ..even on days when you don't think you've a problem. My clinic recommended twice daily from Day 1.
For constipation. ...take the gentle medication regularly rather than wait until you have a problem.
Don't forget the monthly chemo thread which will have lots of others who are starting chemo like yourself or have a few months experience to share with you.
If you are feeling very sick after chemo 1 ....make sure you discuss this with your oncologist before the next dose as there are different anti emetics which may suit you better.
Finally rest, drink plenty of water and never feel guilty that you don't feel great. You are you.....and you will react to the drugs your way. Never compare yourself to anyone else.
I hope you are starting to feel better this morning. 4/5 days is quite common and then you may start to regain some normality.
I'm sure you'll receive lots of other tips as people wake up.
It is almost five years since I was diagnosed and I have been cancer free since my lumpectomy in November 2015. There is plenty of hope for a successful recovery.
Take care. Love Karen
Thank you so much Karen/ lacomtekp for your advices. Everything has been summarised in this post.
My mouth is ok for now but I will start the mouthwash
I am experiencing headaches coupled with bad and noisy dreams. I woke up at 2.30 this morning.
I will call the clinic to ask if I can take some paracetamol.
I was supposed to work today ( I thought I was Wonder Woman). Bed restfor me today.
Thanks again, your message gave me plenty of hope
Xxx
