I’ve only just been diagnosed with breast cancer in one breast (2 months ago) and already had the operation to remove tumour and it’s now been confirmed it’s in several of my bones. My cancer is hormone receptive which apparently is a positive thing.
Has anyone got any advice or experience. I’m terrified. Thanks x
Hi AliWtem
No advice or experience I'm sorry to say to you, but I wanted to pop onto your post to say how sorry I am for you to read this and assure you that you aren't being ignored. I see you have joined the secondary cancer group and hopefully the ladies on their will be able to offer you some support and advice. It is not surprising that you are terrified and I hope you can get some reassurance from the secondary group as I know a lot of ladies have lived with secondary cancer for many, many years.
You are right that being hormone receptive (ER+) is a good thing as you can take tablets for this (presumably the same when it's in your bones, I don't know).
Kindest wishes to you,
Dear AliWtem
I just wanted to say I am really sorry to hear your news. I know that you were recently deciding whether to go for an axillary node clearance after the node that they took tested positive? This recent news must have been an awful shock for you. I can't offer specific advice but I know there are some ladies in this community who are also dealing with a similar diagnosis and I'm sure you will also receive some good advice from the Breast Secondary group. Has your oncologist indicated what treatment is likely to come next for you? Sending you a big virtual hug x
Thank you Lesley, it’s so good to hear many of the ladies have lived with this for year (s). The ‘s’ on the end of year has suddenly become so important. I know I’m in a supportive environment here and feel safe. I welcome the responses, they are very comforting. I have my first Oncologist appointment tomorrow so I will probably have loads more posts to do in the coming weeks thanks again, xx
Hi, yes, it was a terrible shock and I’m still in a state of disbelief. I have my first Oncology appointment tomorrow so I’ll find all the info then. It’s the early stages for me so it just feels like a really bad dream. Thanks for the hug, I definitely need lots of that at present x
Hi - I too have secondaries in my bones. Like you I was terrified and convinced I wouldn't be here for much longer. I was really cross because no-one would tell me how long I had. I realise now they don't know but at the time I was furious and thought they were keeping it from me. I was put on Anastrazole and Alendronic Acid. That was over 6 years ago and I'm still going strong. I do get side effects from the drugs mostly joint pain but have morphine to help with it. I think there are some people on here that have gone 10 years. Apparently if you are going to get secondaries bones is the one to have. Hope this helps a bit and once you are on the drugs I'm sure you have many years to go.
Christine
Hi Christine, good to hear you are so well. You have also reassured me enormously so thank you. Strangely enough I feel like me but with sore bits so the fear of rapidly going downhill seems so unreal and hopefully won’t be the case.
This is such a warm community to be part of. I feel quite privileged and not so alone. Alison x
