Hi there does anyone have any feed back in the use of Tamoxifen? Everything I read is negative such as hot flushes , blood clots etc etc , what are your experiences and thoughts please ?
Hi, this is my first post! Yes, I started Tamoxifen in January and although I had heard about awful side effects I am pleased to tell you that it’s been absolutely fine. I take mine every evening before bed. I have been waking up a couple of times a bit too warm but not bathed in sweat or anything, The only other niggle is this month I have been getting some vaginal discharge which I need to ask the breast nurse about. But really nothing too bad. Hope that helps .
Hi
I note that Tamoxifen is usually the drug of choice if you are pre-menopausal. Is that the case for all 3?
How long have they said you will be on Tamoxifen?
D
I was on it, and I did have hot flushes, mysterious discharge and was probably a bit more abrupt in some conversations, but none of the horror stories came true for me. Your body will adjust to it over time, I think I had a few months' settling in, but it's hard to tell as I started it when I started radiotherapy.
Thank you for your reply xxx I’m still undecided
Im
more thinking of the main side effects such as blood clots and uterine cancers as it says it raises these risks , that is why I am still looking at the box and havnt yet started taking them , a bit scared I guess x
I started Tamoxifen in February and have been fine. I can't really say I have felt any side effects....occasionally, I feel a bit of a warm flush but only ever for about a minute. I'm 48 and pre-menopause. There are side effects with all drugs, I suppose you have to consider the benefit it is giving you now outweighs the small risk of what could possibly happen in the future.
I am being offered the option of having the zoladex injections in order to suppress the ovaries producing oestrogen so I can then change to anastrazole. This is on hold for the moment due to the coronavirus as it means more appointments. However, I next meet with Onco on 3 July to discuss further. My quandry is, as I understand it anastrazole may give me a slightly higher benefit - maybe 1 or 2% - and I want to take the best option offered to me. However, the down sides are it means an injection every month, which could go on for a number of years. I might have more side effects if my body is forced into menopause before it is ready. Also, anastrazole might give me more side effects than Tamoxifen and now that I feel I can cope well with Tamoxifen, should I just stick with that. If it is a very effective drug, I am getting a good level of protection without a negative impact on my life.
I wonder do lots of ladies stick with Tamoxifen for the whole 5 or 10 years and have a good record of no recurrence?
