If you need any extra tips, our Chemo Tips Page is something you may find very helpful, and if you find a tip which helped you just reply to share with others who are also going through chemo. One top tip, ask about parking at the hospital where you are being treated; for some Cancer patients parking is either free or heavily discounted - So it's worth asking about.

Hi HockeyNut
Thanks for your reply, it is really reassuring. I had a different cancer a few years and had neutropenic sepsis so now I'm terrified whenever my temperature goes up. I did a bit of research last night and it seems that a day 3-4 "drug fever" is not uncommon. I suppose it's just a matter of trying not to panic too much and getting advice if you're not sure. Thanks again for your advice and I hope all is going well for you.
Northerner hello again, here's hoping that you are safe and well? Like you, my nails are now in a dreadful state, with four white horizontal lines across each fingernail and where they are growing up now, they are also beginning to crack and peel along those white bands. Here's hoping that they don't come off altogether enforcement rowing my it. I'm using the Evonail more often and thankfully, my toenails seem to be okay so far. Still getting a lot of pain in my legs shortly after receiving my three weekly Herceptin injection though, worst luck, as it's keeping me awake at night and I'm feeling very exhausted not getting much sleep now. I hope all of you people on this thread are not suffering too much, stay strong and keep safe. Good luck.
Hi Giuliella
hope you and hubby are ok and are now all sorted with food deliveries etc .
I received supermarket emails last week with priority slots availability . I've gone with Asda in the end as once you gave a slot they then offer you the ability to book same slot for 1/2/3/4 week intervals so I now have Asda slot every three weeks . That together with local fruit and veg delivery should keep us from starving lol
just had my Herceptin this morning so back home all showered and relaxed
My finger nails still weak and breaking off . The Pliazon cream from hospital has stopped the skin splitting open on finger tips . It's great to combat the dry hands from constant washing and gel .
Toenails seam to like to come off one by one .
Take care

Can anyone advise what to try for sore painful gums during chemo please?
Hi
Have you tried bonjela ..funny I know but it worked for my ulcers .
Also if you ask at your unit they may be able to advise .
Youre on the right thread so most probably get loads of answers

hello, I was given some mouthwash by the chemotherapy nurses before I left after my first session, so they should be your first contact. Otherwise, try phoning the 24/7 line for advice, as they may be able to prescribe some for you or direct you to where and how you can get some. Good luck.
Yes I used bonjela as well it helped me a lot. The first cycle I didn’t clean teeth after every meal and this is what I should have been doing. Brush v softly while the gums are inflamed. Also used some medicated mouthwash I already had but not sure if it would be right for you. The one they seem to prescribe is Difflam.
Just to add yes I used mouthwash as well supplied by unit . Also I was advised to use a child's soft toothbrush .. really enjoyed using a My Little Mermaid brush

I have a child's Batman brush as that's all that was available. I was told to rinse my mouth with salt and water and to brush after every meal. I haven't done the salt and water yet but I have been brushing with my tiny toothbrush!
