I knew I was high risk, but it's scary they also think so and sent the text!

  • Me too!  Please can I ask on what basis you are extremely vulnerable as I had a look at the link you posted to gov.uk definition and don't think I am...what am I missing?  Bio up to date on here..

Am hoping there's been a mistake so early on...

    Thanks. Sam X

  • Oh my !

No hope for the rest of us then as - you finished chemo quite a bit after me , ( I finished end of December) , you had surgery at the beginning of your treatment and don’t think you are on radiotherapy. And you were considered ok to go back to work !!. The thought of staying home for another three months is hard but like cancer treatment rather safe than sorry. I was so looking forward to properly playing with my little grandchildren and now we talk through the window and they don’t understand ! Makes me cry.

It must be more difficult living in London though. So busy and so many more cases.

Up here( central Scotland ) we are behind you but no doubt it’s coming fast.

Take care and keep safe everyone. We never expected our life to be threatened like this not only once but twice. Stay strong.

  • Hi Sam,

I have asthma,  albeit fairly mild asthma.  I'm 3 months out of chemo,  where the EC had me in A&E every cycle with chest pain and palpitations,  and finally my oncologist thought there might me an issue this week so asked for it to be investigated as my blood pressure is 143/85 instead of its pre chemo 125/78 average  I had a possible blood clot when the PICC line was in my arm  which is still swollen and a bit hard as well as immediate pain in my chest. I had head pains for a week before getting a posterior retinal tear a few weeks ago (I so have flashes of light and an ever diminishing twig floating around in my left eye). Moorfields were meant to follow it up in 1-2 weeks but I guess they're busy. So my issues I'm guessing are chemo, possible heart issues and asthma..... and probably living in London!

How about you? You're also in London aren't you? Yesterday there were 59 cases in our borough, a woman 2 doors away and works for thr NHS was diagnosed with the virus last week.  She's been given the all clear now,  but everyone else there is in quarantine until next Monday. My husband only went into work last Thursday (the RCA), to be told there were two people in the college with it (so thug wasn't it closed for deep cleaning???

  • Hi , I think that even if you don't get the  text that the twelve weeks is a good idea. Lothian isn't too bad yet is it? My daughter is staying in St Andrews until the end of May as it's safer,  gives us more room,  and she has a few really good friends from the rifle club who have stayed and she can socialise safely with. Her flatmates have gone  home now so she has a 5 bedroom flat with huge kitchen with sofas and breakfast bar all too her self! I  might email the uni and ask if she can stay a few more weeks until it dies down more,  as I don't like the idea of the train back,   and it's a bit far to drive!

    How are you doing? Xxx

“Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet.  Stephen Hawking,
  • I've now downgraded by threat level!  Spoke to my BCN and based on the number of calls like mine querying why we're vulnerable as we don't think we should be they seem to think that all the cancer patients at my hospital got the text whether they're really classed as vulnerable or not. Phew!

I think however its good that you are taking the advice given the many challenges that you have had and hope you have good support around you to ensure you come out of this in tip-top condition.

  • I think that it will be ok, as we have a garden, and Lovell neighbours either side.  I was chatting to them both today as I hung out a washing,  one side was gardening and the other have a 9 month old baby they'd brought out for some air. The couple with the baby messaged us last week to day they'd happily help us if we needed it and we responded in like, and I emailed our other neighbour's to say the same:)

Oh,  well,  it will give my hair a chance to grow and gives me priority for grocery delivery slots from Sainsbury's, which at the moment is like a golden ticket!

“Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet.  Stephen Hawking,
  • Good you have been downgraded @Yorkshire-defector !!

    - things are not so advanced up here but maybe it’s a matter of time.

Its a hard one with your daughter so far away from home but she is probably much safer in St Andrews. And of course she will get lots of studying done !!!

I am ok - thanks for asking. I finished chemo 27th December and then had a lumpectomy on 29th February. However the margins weren’t clear enough so had a mastectomy on 13th March. Both ops have been fine but having two surgeries in close succession is quite hard after the chemo challenges. That’s my excuse anyway as I get very tired suddenly. Probably trying to get back to doing normal things too soon. And now this has happened so normal feels quite far away still ! My next step is radiotherapy which I was going to find out about next Monday and not sure now if it will go ahead. I am still on three weekly Herceptin and think that’s on the list of things which count as lowering immunity.

So keep safe and keep well.

  • My onco told me on Friday that Herceptin doesn't lower your immune system. This would tie in with the advice I was given at the end of chemo about not having to be as careful around crowds etc and not having to have bloods done before treatment. She said there are other immunotherapies for different types of cancer which have more impact on the immune system.

Obviously, I'm not saying don't be a little extra careful, I think that makes sense for all of us in these crazy times, but I have been less worried since hearing that on Friday. Relaxed

Take care & keep well x

  • How long have you been asked to stay home ? Is it correct that Herceptin effects immune system ?

Stay safe Margaret - just bad timing for us but we know we can !
    Take care,
