Today my Pharmacist check with me that I wanted to go ahead with the Femara that was on my Prescription, or did I want a Generic?
I told him I have the Femara, he said they would be £159.00 per pack, a months supply!
Haven't you been getting it for a while now on prescription? Why the change? Could you try another pharmacist?
Hi peterawake
Sounds like a cop out to me..... If it actually has Femara written on your prescription then that is what is supposed to be prescribed - if it says letrozole that entitles them to offer you a generic.
Just because you probably get free prescriptions they are trying to get you to pay privately
Pharmacists are urged to cut down costs to the NHS where possible but are not allowed to change prescriptions...current regulations are =
Quote: Currently, a GP branded prescription cannot be switched by a pharmacist to a generic substitute – but a GP generic prescription can be swapped for a branded one.
Put your foot down and push for what is prescribed 'free' - Hope you didn't accept the generic as you could have a heck of a job getting the Femara again ?

Hi
I have been getting the Femara for a while, he was just checking because he said price was so high! I wouldn't go back to Letrozole and each month not knowing what I would get. It has gone up about £30 since I started on it.
I don't think that it has gone up that much. I was quoted £130 by my local pharmacist last month (I decided to try their generic Santoz brand which I got whilst on holiday in Spain. Less joint pain but my head felt off and my throat was parched! I really don't believe that the fillers are the problem as they all have different menopausal symptoms. I think that it's the letrozole itself, a but like wine isn't all the same, or food varies even if it's the same variety or fruit and veg.
